Another Cuban prospect goes brave, 30 year-old Yordanis Despaigne fights former world title challenger Richard Hall in his 6th pro fight. Despaigne is a former Cuban olympian who came to Miami with Rigondeaux and Johnson, and like other veterans, his pro career is moving fast. Hall is known for his fights vs. Jones (in which both fighters were tested positive) and Michalczewski, and he recently knocked out former champ Byron Mitchell so it should be a proper test for the Cuban. The fight became the Friday Night Fights main event after Antonio Escalante pulled out due to injury.
indeed brave to fight such a puncher and seasoned fighter in your 6th pro fight, but of course he has big amateur experience to fall back on.
Tough fight for Yordanis. His first fight for 10 rounds with somebody like Hall. Hope he is in shape, although he was scheduled to fight last week with a nobody. A huge step up in class, too risky for my taste, if he wins he will be there were he should be, at 30 it is already about time for the big parties ...
Good fight...the clock is ticking for Yordanis, and for the most part, LHW is a wide open division where a newcomer like him could make a little noise relatively quickly.
come on guys richard hall has fought 1 time since 2007 and it was against a totally shot 41 year old african. he has no chance
I've never seen Despaigne so I'm not sure how this plays out. But Hall is 38 and has fought one round in the last 2 1/2 years. Hall is the perfect opponent for a young fighter to put on his resume. If Despaigne wins this fight will probably look better on paper than it really is. Time isn't on Despaigne's side so he is in a can't lose situation here.
Hall was an interim champ and top 5 LHW with a serious punch...9 years ago. Hall has been shot for a long time, even though he managed 2 big KOes over the alst 3 years against Mitchell and Ballogou.
