I think we all agree it was competitive no argument with that just Ugas did the better quality work. Maybe it’s down to Pacquiao’s age or perhaps it’s down to Ugas ‘s skills. He clearly knows how to fight southpaws.

Yes so did I. Shows there are all type of different characters in the game. For every ******* like Broner there is a Ugas. For every Billy Joe Saunders there is a Andre Ward.

Nobody said it was not a competitive fight because it was. Ugas was just the better fighter on the night displaying superior skill and accuracy.

Not at all it’s a name earned.

 

I would not go as far as saying "superior skill" but more of superior gameplan.
He knew looping/overhand rights gave Pac troubles in the past and he took advantage of it.
He knew Pac has problems with steady long jabs, and he used his (not sure why he abandoned it mid-fight tho).
He knows his style of being conservative with his punches is best to combat Pac, and he did his uber best to avoid all out wars vs Pac.

Pac on the other hand looked lost.
No plan Bs or Cs when Ugas won't engage.
He employed his consistent jab way too late in the fight.
He forced the fight instead of countering and stepping in.

The better gameplan won that night. Just glad the judges awarded the W to the correct man.

Yes you are definitely correct about better gameplan. I guess the ability to execute the Salas game plan is a skill in itself. This is not always easy to do. In the fight against Miguel Cotto, Cotto deviated from the strategy and tried to bully Pacquiao which led to his downfall. The truth is while Freddie Roach is a very good trainer of fighters especially offensively he struggles against slick fighters with advanced game plans. Imagine how Derek James strategy for Pacquiao would have been. It would have been like the Mikey Garcia fight with Pacquiao being picked apart at range with the fast accurate jab and banged up when he got desperate and jumps in. Definitely feel Spence would have knocked him out.
