Crazy. The main event guy has no belt, but the guy fighting on her undercard has the belt he once owned without ever fighting for it.
I knew Berto had 1 more payday left in him! Dude is probably the most overpaid boxer of his era(jsut look at his live gates and TV ratings). Also, I think he has enough left to score the improbable come from behind KO here. If Berto can beat any belt holder right now, it´s going to be Ugas. Not because Ugas is a bad boxer, oh no,no, no! Ugas will absolutely box his ears off! But because styles make fights and Berto has speed with deceptive power.
Berto will always have a special place in Al Haymon’s heart. Outside of Floyd he was one of Haymon’s first fighters when he negotiated that absurd HBO deal for him. Berto was getting $2.5 million Steve Forbes and Freddy Hernandez. It was Berto’s contract that made HBO get out of the Al Haymon business due to his choice in opposition as champion. The guy has made so much money by simply being a favorite of Al.
Yup. I dug the article up a while ago(not bothered right now) that highlighted HBO´s issue with live gates and purses. I think it was a Berto fight that attracted less than 1000 at the venue, yet cost HBO millions. And it wasn´t a 1 time thing. I remember plenty of talks years ago how Haymon events were giving away a ton of tickets to fill the venues.
But a good fight for both guys. An impressive win will mean a lot for Ugas as he has nothing going on for him atm. And Berto gets his one last shot at glory.
