How good was this win for Trinidad ? Campas had a mexican padded record but he was a good puncher with 50 KOs. He was 56-0. 56-0. Trinidad was undefeated too, in 23 fights, and held the IBF title. He had to get off the deck in the second round. Campas was no bum. Tough and a big puncher. I thought Trinidad did well to get him out of there inside 4 rounds, one of his better wins. I remember Campas being around for years. Wouldn't be surprised if he's still fighting.
Campas had a great chin and very good power he dropped Tito with the shortest hook ive seen but Felix like he did before and would do it after dust himself off and proceeded to to beat the crap out of Campas. Good win and good fight and damn i miss Tito Trinidad.
Fighters like Campas are a credit to the sport of boxing and are vastly under appreciated. I wouldn't say he had a padded record, he just stayed really busy (better than sitting on his ass like a lot of fighters today). It is not like he and his team went looking for candy asses to fight, they most likely could not land a big fight, so to stay busy they fought whomever they could get. Campas earned everything he got. Campas had over 120 fights, I think 8 of those fighters had losing records when Campas fought them..
I think Campas was actually favored to win the fight by very slim odds. Tito was only 21. It was an excellent win. He had a great year that year beating Camacho, Campas and Carr. Tito was great for boxing. Great entertainment and not afraid. Plus a classy guy with natural charisma.
Not really as far as quality of opponent Yori Boy had an inflated record His best win had been a split decision over Roger Turner Still the WAY he stopped the durable Campas was impressive.
Actually the blowout of Blocker to win the title was really impressive. Camacho didn't belong in the same ring at that juncture. He was getting big fights on past reputation. I am surprised Campas was the favorite. They were trying to hype the next JC Chavez apparently
I thought Turner was real unlucky to drop that decision. Thus I certainly did not consider him of having much chance against Tito. But as mentioned to take Campos out in four was impressive.
Any decent (Mr Lueshing) welter looked liked they had a great left hook against Tito. The problem was once you landed it, it seemed to annoy Trinidad...
