Not trying to change your mind at all but I just realized that I didn't explain my thinking very well. I looked at this question from an odd point of view. Because the OP didn't mention anything about the fighters being in their primes I looked at the concept of my five bout series as being fought every couple of years over the course of their careers. Pipino's prime was relatively short and I thought he would win and probably KO Campas in the couple of matchups closest to his prime. Campas was good for quite a long time and I thought he would win the other three.

I believe that he went down in his fight with Jose Luis Lopez, who splattered Campas worse than Trinidad did.

Cuevas would beat him all day every day.
Something about Campas that I learned when my fighter sparred with him, around 03, 04. Despite all those knockouts, he was not that great of a puncher.

The Ceuvas prime was a little short in years but in fights he actually defended the WBA title a whopping 11 times. It was about a 4 year stretch before Tommy axed him.

One wonders if his starting point affected him a little. A pro at 14 and champ at 18 from memory. Of course that devastating KO against Hearns would have been a bit tough.

That's possible..I remember watching that too. It was a surprise to me that Lopez beat him partly because I didnt know who Lopez was.

Cheers mate. It's often forgotten (not saying by you) how decent Pipino's run was with that title. I mean, it wasn't a murderers row but it was a solid effort. He was actually really highly thought of and in the mix with Hearns, Duran, Benitez and SRL as the younger guys burst thru.

For better or worse, one of the differences between now and then was how often champions fought. Because belt holders defended their titles on a regular basis not every challenger was of the highest quality simply because there are only so many top level challengers. With current champions fighting considerably less often you would think that the challengers would be of a consistent high quality. That is not close to being the case for a great percentage of the champions. It's too bad.

And that's a fantastic point. a 4 year stretch now might equal 3-4 fights for some.

    I reckon it's about 0.65 vs 0.045 roughly.

Cuevas would annihilate Campas in under 6 rounds.
