Just got back in from watched Yory Boy Campas fight on the undercard of a IBA World Welterweight Title fight. Yory Boy didnt put a foot wrong. His display was close to perfect against an opponent not worthy to share the same ring. The skill level of Yory Boy was inspiring to watch. Is left hand is truly a wond, he gave his opponent ripping left hooks both to the body and the head. He won by TKO in the 5th. This thread is just purely for people who share the same admiration for Yory Boy! Hes a Legend!
Time has passed since then. He's lost to Albert and arguably Bravo since then, neither stellar performances.
I've always liked Yori Boy. He's a real throwback fighter - a guy who fights regularly and usually gives his all in the ring. He's not a great fighter, but he sure was a very good one - just below the top level for the era.
Yori Boy has been fighting forever, it seems like. I always liked him, but I wish he would have retired years ago. Like El Rey said, he's going to be paying for it later.
Exactly, he had a terrific offensive arsenal and workrate to both head and body. ....but he's far from a great fighter. Campas' defense is just atrocious. I do worry for his future health. For those of you who have read of what Campas' former manager along with Bob Arum did to rob him of his purses. It just a reminder of the scum that is Bob Arum to see a crowd pleaser like Yory Boy taken advantage of and robbed financially.
I never knew the specifics, but I figured Yory Boy must have been ripped off in the past. There's no other reason for him to be fighting, except for seriously needing the money. That's really too bad.
Unfortunately for him though, if he's only able to dominate this caliber opponent, and to barely be competitive with Norberto Bravo types, he will never get another payday meaningful enough to retire comfortably on. :verysad
Campas was a very good fighter. sadly for him the highlight of his career is when trinidad almost ripped his head off.
the golden fishnets could have helped him out a lot financially by at least giving him a bigger cut of the purse when DLH (who campas had absolutely no business being in the same ring with) used him for a worthless tune up. amazing though that he's still fighting. he's copped so many beatings in his career, that he should have retired years ago.
i dont remember ever seeing yoryboy on the canvas...most of his losts have come in his own hands....which is good cause he can still fight now.....
and plus, he just stopped a guy who went tooth for tooth with el martillo gonzales who's supposedly a prospect..... beat duddy and vanda IMO....
I saw the fight on Telefutura. The stoppage was rather quick, and it was obvious that the referee was enamored with Campas.
