Sato is looking like he won't get past the 8th.

His team should have stop it, he had his hands low the whole time, and town very little.

I don't see why the fight was stopped then and not round 7. If the ref was going to let him take that beating the previous round, I didn't see anything different in the beating he was taking in round 8.

But absolutely an inevitable stoppage and mighty impressive performance from Sri.

Honestly, I thought Rungvisai beat Sato by 2 points when Sato won the title. I think the classic Thai-style is the worst possible match up for the way Sato fights.

Good largely one sided fight. Gave Sato two rounds but they were damn near toss ups, and Sri could have won them all and could have had 2 10-8 rounds in there easily.

    Give me Srisaket vs. Tepparith.

Does anyone know if Srisaket Rungvisai is brothers with Suriyan Rungvisai???

Because that too would be a great slugging inside fight.

    BUMP

We have a new WBC 115 titlist.

And boy what an exciting style this guy brings with him! This was a real good watch...

Many rated Sato over Narvaez as the top man of the division.

Can someone explain to me why in the **** this was on at 4:40am EST? :blood

That was 3:40pm local time in Thailand!! :patsch Mid-afternoon WBC title contests? Cats and dogs, living together...:-(

Even if they were accommodating Japanese TV back home for Sato, it makes no sense - 4:40am EST would be abnormally early for a main event there as well. Tokyo is only two hours ahead of Si Sa Ket. 5:40pm in Japan would barely have been evening. Usually their domestic shows have the headliner ring walks no sooner than prime time (7 or 8pm local, which is 6 or 7 in the morning here...which is far more reasonable to set the alarm for than 4:freaking:30!!)

No. "Srisaket" isn't his real name. He is Wisaksil Wangek.

"Suriyan Sor Rungvisai" is a ring name too. His real name is Suriyan Kaikanha, but for a long time he went by Suriyan Por Chokchai.

I am not inclined to indulge these Siamese boxers whoring themselves out to corporations and large gyms by changing their names to dole out free advertising. So you'll never hear me call anyone "Kokietgym" or anything like that. Terdsak Jandaeng will always be Terdsak Jandaeng for me. Tepparith Singwancha is Tepparith Singwancha, or actually Panthep Mullipoom. I believe Rungvisai may be a large boxing club, like Kokietgym, but don't quote me on that.

It's completely different from Cassius Clay having deeply meaningful personal reasons to insist that he be known going forward as Muhammad Ali. These grubby *******s in Thailand are only doing it for a quick buck, and worse it's obnoxious to keep track of because some of these little ***** boys change it multiple times in a year, constantly selling the space on their waistband to the highest bidder. I refuse to respect it and won't oblige it by repeating their fake ***** names. I take great care whenever discussing Thai boxers to make sure I've thoroughly researched and found their genuine birth name and use only that...or if unknown whatever moniker they've used that isn't clearly attached to a trademark.

Yeah I read an article about how it was going to be an afternoon show, supposedly the first time Sato has fought on a card other than in the evening.

    Ah.

Gotta admit I didn't know the thing about the gyms. I found it curious as to why there were so many Rungvisai's and Kokietgym's out there. I do know they had different "real" names but I figured it was for personal marketing ala Felix Sturm.

So, how do you feel about Felix Sturm and the many Germans who have changed their names? Surely, you should refer to them as their birth names if you do so for the Thais.

No, that's completely different. Don't tell me what to do. :tong

Stuff like Adnan Catic changing to Felix Sturm, or Almazbek Raimkulov to Kid Diamond - that's fine by me, even though in those cases it's probably more of a frivolous "self-branding makeover" to more easily promote themselves in the Germany & the USA respectively than a deeply personal significance like Clay becoming Ali. It only crosses the line to me having a problem with it where the boxers ***** themselves out for profit like walking billboards, which seems to be all the rage in Thailand the last decade or so. It's pathetic, they completely trade away their identity for a quick (and likely meager) profit - and it becomes confusing as hell when you have dozens of guys representing the same gym or sponsoring corporation. At least with boxing families like the Kamedas or whatnot you only have to worry about half a dozen at the most with the same name. There are - I don't know, thirty-odd Kokietgyms? More?

It's shameless and smacks of a creepy Borg collective vibe. It takes Nascar-drivers-covered-in-logo-patches several orders of magnitude beyond the threshold of poor taste.

So for instance, if Tepparith Singwancha and Suriyan Por Chokchai are just aliases they picked because they sounded cool (I'm actually not sure if they are or not) I'm happy to refer to them by those and not what is actually printed on their birth certificate. I'm fine with people changing their names...just not selling them. I refuse to indulge the behavior with repetition of the company names they're pimping and making a sales tool of myself on behalf of the Kokiet Gym, or the 3K Battery firm.

Imagine some prospect in New York City on the way up suddenly billed & introduced as "Joey Big Mac" with a big golden arch on the butt of his red velour trunks? :-( It would be ****ing ridiculous, and it's no less so when the boxers in Thailand do it.

    I feel you.

And I wasn't telling you what to do, you know I've got mad internet man love for your opinion (95% of the time) and RBR's, IB... :hey :smooch

I didn't know what emoticon to put there so I picked the creepiest possible combination.

But, I will say that I still think you aren't exactly being consistent. In the end, Chockchai and Catic still both changed their ring names for the sake of personal profit, regardless of any other details. It would be like holding it against authors for picking better pen names to market their novels, with a fine example being the woman who wrote "The Outsiders" under her pen name (forget what it is) which was purposefully chosen to make her appear as a man so that she seemed respectable on the subject of teenage gang warfare...

And yes, Cassius Clay and Dion Savages' name changes aren't comparable to the above discussed.
