Merchant was actually being unbiased and just asking for his take on the events before he went into a prescripted rant, literally out of the blue, that had nothing to do with anything being discussed.

Merchant: "The crowd, at least a good part of it, is in an uproar because they felt that you took shots at him unfairly after you were -- went together in the ring, made up for the headbutt, and then you poked him. What's your story?'
Mayweather: "First off, I wanna thank God for this victory, because without God all this wouldn't be possible. I wanna thank my team. I got hit with a dirty shot, and, um, it's protect yourself at all times. I hit him with a left hook-right hand, and that ended the bout."

Merchant: "So you're saying that even though it appeared that he didn't -- wasn't protecting himself, and thought that was part of the ceremony you were going through, of apology, that you unfairly took advantage of it. What do say to those that say, 'What'd you do there? You were winning the fight and in charge.'"
Mayweather: "I just wanna tell everybody that bought pay-per-view, that came out to Las Vegas, thank you. It was a hell of a fight."
Merchant: "Floyd, you know you're a promoter, but now we're talking to you as a prizefighter. Let's take a look at what happened at the end of the fight, and you describe it."
Mayweather: "We touch -- we touch gloves. We're back to fighting. Hook. Right hand. And that's all she wrote."
Merchant: "So for you, it was just an automatic response, let's get on with the fight."
Mayweather: "It's protect yourself at all times. He done something dirty. We're not here to cry and complain about what he did dirty, or what I did dirty. I was victorious. If he wants a rematch, he can get a rematch."
Merchant: "You were in charge of the fight. You were aggressive. And trying, and taking advantage of--"
Mayweather: "You know what I'm gonna do? 'Cause you don't never give me a fair shake, you know that? So I'm gonna let you go and talk to Victor Ortiz, alright? I'm through. Put somebody else up here and give me an interview."
Merchant: "What are you talking about? What are you talking about?"
Mayweather: "You never give me a fair shake! HBO needs to fire you! You don't know **** about boxing! You ain't ****! You not ****!"

It was awkward and embarrassing, yet again, on Mayweather's part.

Merchant is very negative at times, (he takes a shot at Mayweather's legal/domestic abuse issues, I couldn't imagine him doing this to an Arturo Gatti for his numerous arrestes, or when De La Hoya was getting accused of things and settling out of court), but he's usually gives compliments on Mayweather for his skills.

He said "there's no room for perfection" at the end of the Baldomir fight, saying that the fans didn't appreciate his dominance. But Floyd went off on him when Merchant questioned his fighting style of being that of a warrior, or something like that.

The first thing he said when Mayweather stopped Ortiz was that it was a terrific performance.

Merchant's negativity is too much at times (saying Hopkins got paid for doing NOTHING, which is ridiculous to say to a prize-fighter, no matter how overmatched Hakkar was), and sometimes needs to be put in his place, but when Floyd does it, he embarasses himself.

Likewise, Jim Gray deserved to be told off, and was so by James Toney. That time, Gray wasn't actually being a pompous jerk like he often is, but he had it coming.

Toney even said later that he did that because of things Gray had said in the past.

That was the most pathetic and scripted bs of all time. Floyd was banking on Harold insulting Floyd and when he didn't... Floyd just blurted it out because the Sho deal was already made.

No. I'm saying that he talks as if he's put on the gloves before. He talks like every fight needs to be a Rocky scene. He doesn't appreciate all forms of boxing either. He'll bash and sneak diss fighters like Rigo and Floyd, and then praise a guy like Rios. If you're going to cover the sport, at least appreciate all sides of it. Even if you don't like someone's style. Appreciate what they do, and that they dedicate their lives to the sport, and are putting their lives on the line.

Exactly! He covers boxing like some of these trolls post on esb. You can prefer one style but learn how to appreciate all styles.

As over sensitive as floyd is, to a female-ish degree, merchant has had that coming for years. Was a good day when hbo finally let him go.

It was cringe worthy on both parts.

Honestly, I hate the post fight interviews, it's a bad time to talk to a fighter. They're still keyed up, they just got punched a lot of times and you want them to have a conversation with you?

Some handle it better than others -- but the answers are usually pretty stock and rarely interesting.
