You are fooled if you think Golovkin has a bad defense

You know that when you rush in for a KO like Golovkin does you become very vulnerable to being countered? The fact is that he could have boxed a boring fight and cruised to a decision victory or late KO win (example: Ward+Mayweather). However, Golovkin gave the fans an exciting show. He doesn't have a "bad defense", he only got hit because he opened himself up to much.

This is what happens when he faces Ward: He will either go for the straight KO and Ward will counter him and win a few rounds before getting KO'd within the first 6. Or, he will come in and outbox Ward like he outboxed Lemieux utilizing his power and ability to cut off the ring. Either way, Golovkin is not only P4P #1 currently but is also the most exciting boxer in the game.

Do you not understand my post? He only opens himself up too much because he makes it a street fight as he even acknowledges. He doesn't box a boring fight on purpose so people will keep watching him. That doesn't mean his defense is bad, nobody can go on the knockout streak that Golovkin is on without opening themselves up to take huge shots.

Ok you guys believe Triple G has a bad D, its fine

Forget the Lemieux fight, where GGG showed he can put on a tactical game if he respects the others power

He s an incredible power puncher with a granite chin and likes fights to be good " drama shows"

Before this bout Gennady said " its gonna be a present for the fans" ....and it was

This was his strategy in this fight from the get go

I have a feeling boxers will still duck Triple G even though " he doesnt have a D and is easy to hit "....weird huh

You can't tell if a fighter has a great defense or a bad defense until his career is over.

Look at all the guys who had "great defense" and ended up punch drunk. People still rave about Wilfred Benitez and his "great defense" and yet he was brain damaged by age 26. James Toney's a bit punchy too and people say he was so great at slipping punches. Pernell Whitaker is apparently a bit punchy too.

Then you get the fighters who people think are "too easy to hit" and actually it turns out they weren't getting hit much at all, because long after their careers they are still articulate and suffering no signs of dementia.

To be fair to Whitaker, he's been a crack head, so it's perhaps wrong to cast aspersions on his defensive techniques when it might have been putting in those years on the pipe that messed up his brain.

    Beautiful men.

They used perfect head movement. Economical. They moved just enough to save the brain tissue while the facial area was sacrificed for good health in later years.

Wepner tried teaching Ali this, but Ali ignored him. It's sad.

With his Chin does it even matter if he has no Defense? Some of you are overthinking this. Brook can't bust a grape at 160. It didn't matter how many times he hit GGG.

Your Chin is your second line of Defense in a fight. That is why Glass Jawed fighters are at such a disadvantage. GGG defense is plenty good enough.

No the best way to tell if a guy has good or bad defense is to watch his fights.

Anyway, Golovkin has a good defense overall imo. He doesn't always use it though, sometimes he just goes to war with people and beats them up.

    His D is okay.
His G might be weak. But he has three of them.

Yes obviously. If you have poor defense, you can be hit. If you get hit too much, you lose the fight.

Bad defense is when they get "hit too much".
The best measure of whether they got hit too much is whether they are brain damaged. In real life that will be the measure.

Failing that, let's see how often they were knocked out.
    Or knocked down.
    Or outpointed.
    Or cut and busted up.

So far, Golovkin's doing okay on all counts.

There's not much you can gauge from Golovkin's overall abilities from the fight yesterday night. He didn't respect Kell's power at all, nor his size. Hence why Golovkin couldn't really be bothered establishing a jab, and was fighting more so for the KO.
He does have good defence for his style, but he's no Chavez.

We're talking about boxing here. You can lose many fights due to poor defence and not suffer brain damage.
