You are granted one boxing wish

Be carefull what you wish for.

It sounds great to the fan, but the results might not be pretty.

I adore fighters like Sam Langford and Harry Greb, but I honestly hope that the world never sees their like again.

 

The idea that it could end at any moment, (the fight, I mean, not the life) is something you don't have in non-fighting sports, and that does add a sense of urgency to the experience.

 

I would wish for a system that could focus down on the top quality matches.

Say that we could have the old system of eight weight classes, and one title per division, combined with a system of mandatories similar to that imposed by the modern boxing organisations.

You would get mega fights left right and centre in any era, and it would probably prove that there was no such thing as a weak era.

My only other wish is for Muhamad Ali to come out of retirment and sort out the heavyweight division, or better still for Joe Louis to come back from the dead.

 

Nothing cheesy about that.

why is that?


I will pick a semi-realistic wish, that there is a judging commitee that hopefully elminate poor judging and keep decisions fair and just.

 

Plus going back to the original weights.

My wish would be that the public would never have stopped craving going out to the fights at their local boxing clubs despite the television era. At least up and down the east coast of the USA.

That would mean more clubs, more gyms, more fighters, which would mean more talent would be properly developed, and thus more good fighters fighting each other more often.

The golden era never would have ended.
