In a recent interview Oscar De La Hoya intimated that if he got ahold of most of the top fighters and most of the TV dates he would have monthly boxing shows... on PPV. Way to alienate fans, make the sport as inaccessable as possible.
They are copying vince mcmahons model of sports entertainment. ****ing ***gots. Look at the old 'name' fighters being used up to create new stars who don't have to fight each other until they can get a fevered pitch for the fight and then sell it to you for 50$. Pretty soon friday night fights will be 6 jobbers fighting each other while the 'star' comes out and cuts an interview how he will destroy his other name opponent at latin fury 901.
And it'd be like the UFC. They have 1 or 2 major PPVs a year that are huge, and the rest are SSM vs. Mora level stuff that nobody buys.
Not sure how reliable this is considering there isn't even a ****ing mention of a source! But I have never been against PPVs. I actually think they are a good thing. Not all the 50+ dollar ones, but if a fighter can fight ppv...why not?? Boxers fight for a living, and if people are willing to PAY to watch on on TV, then why not...after all its them who are putting their lives on the line for our viewing pleasure. So lets pay those guys if we want to see them fight.
Well if he does get a hold of the top boxers today then he can make big fights anytime he wants. Lopez-Caballero or gamboa January Khan-Maidana- february Mosley-Berto March PW-Martinez-april Klitscko-Haye -may Hopkins-Dawson june pac-mayweather july etc etc
basically that's similar to what UFC does and its working out very well. People get to see the best fight the best all the time and if that comes at a price tag then its still worth it.
Isn't that what we want anyway??? It beats Top Rank putting Pacquiao up against the Clotteys on PPV for 50+ bucks.
