I actually want to see all fighters under one banner, the problem is GBP needs to make boxing MORE accessible, not less.
It's not always that there are too many PPV's just tone down the price some to match the event. Some $30 cards would be fine. Just load the ****ers with good cards.
I know your hate for Pac is allmighty, but this thread has nothing to do with him. Golden boy just put Mosley vs Mora, a far far shittier fighter than Pac vs Clottey, on PPV. Considering that this thread is about Golden Boy and that Mosley vs Mora just happened last week on a Golden Boy PPV card, I don't see why you chose to bring in Pac vs Clottey other than the unbearable and constant urge to hate on Pac that you are possessed with.
That's not the point. atsch It has everuthing to do with promotional companies and Top Rank is one of them. I'd rather have GBP monopolize boxing as they have PROVEN to match their best with the BEST, than to have Arum vs GBP. You don't even understand what the **** is going on Lance, GTFO. Pac vs Clottey!!! That has no business being made when theres better fight out there to be made. Mora vs Mosley...who gives a ****, it's not like anyone is dying to see either one fight a top fighter. Your comparison is irrelevant. You don't like, you don't buy...that simple...But atleast we know GBP will make the fights we want to see happen.
I dont mind paying for a GOOD solid card. Golden boy do tend to have decent undercards compared to most But the garbage that Top Rank puts on these days is not worth a wank
For those mentioning Pac vs Clottey. That WOULD have been a good fight if Clottey had not been paid off simply to turn up and lose
I don't know man Golden Boy makes shitty fights too like Floyd vs Marquez at 147. Top Rank makes great fights too like Margo vs Cotto. Margo vs Clottey. Clottey vs Cotto. Pac vs Cotto. Mosley vs Mora on PPV is a much bigger disgrace than Pac vs Clottey which was at least two top 5 WWs in their primes.
Boxing needs more good fights, more often, with less PPV's. The more actual worthy fights that are on regular television, and not ppv, means more people will see it, period. Save the PPV's for the top shelf superfights..... Another reason i want all boxing under one roof is because then it can be marketed the right way. UFC can market itself and its fighters through posters, clothing, tv shows, gyms, freaking aciton figures for gods sakes lol. Kids can go to the store and rent UFC dvd's. Boxing needs that IMO. And if it doesnt need that i sure as hell want that. I want to be able to go down to my blockbuster and rent - Cotto vs Mosley - and it would have the countdown to the fight, some other fluff, and then the fight. The cover would be the fight poster. I want to be able to buy fight posters in stores like one can by UFC posters. All of that is fluff, and hardcore fans dont really need it in all honesty, but its the stuff that brings in newer generation of fans, and its why most of the kids i know can name loads of UFC fighters but have a hard time mentioning any boxers by name. Having monthly PPV programs would only make boxing less accessable for fans who arent into the sport enough yet to buy the ppv's. Just have monthly good fights, and have big events schedules a few times a year that would be boxings blockbuster type fights. Or have more 4 man fight offs like showtime is doing, have the first two fights free, and then the winners facing eachother on ppv. something like that would be good, as long as its big names involved. Or if they are going to put on a major card with multiple good fights (and im not talking a bunch of name fighters all fighting no hopers, im talking multiple good actual matchups) a few times a year that would be the blockbuster events for boxing, that would be great and id pay big money for that. I have no problem with PPV's, especially for good cards or big big fights, but they should be the exception, not become the rule. Boxings success will not be on the back of more PPV's. Boxing needs to repeadidly expose its fighters and good fights to the general public, bottom line. anyways, thats my .02 on it.
Um, surely the Vince McMahon model would be less jobber fights, the top stars fighting each other all the time and PPVs stacked with headline matches. Which I don't think anyone would be moaning about....
What?! atsch Mora vs Mosley are two fighters who no one gives a ****....GBP could have charged $100 dollars over that peoce of **** fight and I doubt ANYONE would lose any sleep over that.... ...But Pac the #1 P4P fighter has NO business fighting a B level clown. That's the problem with this....Pac needs to be fighting the BEST to prove that he is the BEST. GBP is pretty much saying they would make the best fight each other. Nope...your blind love for Pac fails you again. This isn't about Pac, or Mora, it's about GBP wanting to match the best against the besta nd Top Rank putting their best against fighter who have recently gotten their asses kicked. pointless fights.
It's not about whose on PPV foo...It's about the best being matched against the best...The Mora vs Mosley fight was a SoCal exhibition bout at best....But GBP puts their best men against the best plain and simple. Where as Top Rank puts losers like Clottey against the best.
Er no. From March (UFC 111) to August (UFC 118) all UFC pay per views did over 500,000 despite one show being broadcast from Abu Dhabi (UFC112) and there being two double-ppv months (May and August). The four shows that performed relatively poorly on pay per view this year (UFC108, UFC109, UFC110 and likely UFC119) still managed to do numbers in excess of Mosley-Mora or Marquez-Diaz II. There's nothing wrong with monthly pay per views as long as the product is good. Indeed it can make the sport more accessible if you have one big night of boxing that people get there friends round to watch (and split the cost) rather than spreading the matches out over several shows that only the hardcores will go out of their way to watch.
When I watched wrestling, main events were main events and the undercards were awesome. This **** now is junk.
