Hey Oscar, you didn't say pretty please. Uncle Bob's gonna make you stand in the corner now. Uh-oh. :rofl
You already pay these guys. Thats an ignorant comment. You pay for cable to see them fight on ESPN and if its a semi elite fight you have to pay for HBO or Showtime or both which is MORE money, and if its a really elite fight you have to pay for cable, hbo, and PPV. Its like a woman getting ass raped and expected to say "thank you sir can I have another" What he is hoping to do is essentially gain a monopoly on fighters forcing the paying customer to cough up more cash for the product which he has cornered the market on. This is in no way good for boxing either on an asthetic level or an economic one. Competition almost always helps the consumer (in this case boxing fans) essentially oscar doesnt want competition, he wants a monopoly and you can look at boxing historically when such conditions were present and see that it was detrimental to the sport. Furthermore you can look at boxing from the dawn of cable through the PPV era and see a direct correlation between the lack of accessability to boxing and its overall decline.
As for those bashing Pac-Clottey: That was actually a good fight on paper before it came off. Nobody was bitching about it and most thought it would be a good competetive fight. It wasnt until Clottey basically phoned in his non-performance that revisionists started saying it was a bad match.
Ok I'm willing to stick my neck out and go against the majority of those who vote against the idea. I watch MMA and while there are issues I have very little complaints when it comes to match making. I usually get the fights I want. Sure, there are shitty cards mixed in with great ones throughout the year but if you're not excited about certain ones you simply don't pay for them. Either ignore them or watch them at a sports bar. You fans give Mayweather **** for fighting only once a year or come down on Pacquiao for hand picking damaged fighters but when someone makes the first step to change this, you bark like someone is burning down your house. I don't get it. Granted it's NOT A PERFECT solution but we'd be getting more ideal fights. Isn't that what we all want? Am I missing something here? If you're happy with just one mega fight per year then don't give Floyd **** about his agenda because he's doing enough to satisfy you. And if you're content with Pacquiao's selection of opponents who serve as a mismatch then don't complain or cry out for a change. I for one would like to see a difference and if it means De La Hoya becomes a billionaire so be it. Arum is lining up his pockets as we speak AND we're getting less than flattering fights. You can't seriously be happy with this.
Whoa wait a sec, how the **** is GBP trying to make a competetive Pac match? Theyve done everything they can to sink negotiations with Mayweather including lie that they were actually taking place.
Yeah, Clottey deserved another shot at the WBO title after the hell he gave Cotto. No one ever dominated Clottey before that.
I called that a whitewash on the cards for Pacquiao the second it was announced. I said Pacquiao would win every single round and the only way Clottey would still be on his feet by the end of the fight would be if he shelled up and played defense-only, which he did. Clottey has a history of failing when the lights get bright. He does it every time and this was no exception.
