You cannot take punches to the head without damage. All fighters are damaged.

Remember that. Just because the damage is not seen or not classified as severe, it will affect a fighter inevitably. Neurological exams taken every year or so will help to spot major damage, but they do not show small amounts of damage that will affect a fighter in unpredictable ways.

When we say, "one more fight is too much", we do not mean that the man will suffer an acute injury, but just add to chronic injury he already has.

    Don't forget that.

Excellent post, thats the main reason that I'm a fan of Floyd's style. Hit and not be hit, get in and get out, the good old stick and move.:good

I've always had the idea that the fighters with the best chins are often the ones with the most severe brain damage in the end, because they just get hit more and sometimes take multiple shots in a fight or even a round that would have knocked others clean out.

Great names, with great chins and not so great simtoms.

agreed a 100%. floyd and hopkins are 2 of my favorite fighters. you hardly ever see either of them get hit with a significant punch, especially hopkins.

    Yeah agreed.

And alot of the damage done in the gym...the punches might not be thrown with as much venom in sparring, but the large volume of taps to the head will wear those brain cells down eventually.

Some have up to and more then 100 amateur matches and count in the sparring and to go and fight as a professional is kinda scary to me.

You can't take a drink of alcohol without taking damaged!
You can't smoke a joint without taking damage.

But Your quite right every punch to the head causes damage. From minuscule to huge.

Dirrell, however, just has damage to his vagina.

Great post if you think that most of top boxers have long amateur careers 100+ fights and then you must count sparing from young age. Then Pro fights avarage 30+ and serious sparring in training camps!

    It shurely must affect brain.

I know some amateur fighters that have only 20 fights and are damaged (they are nost losers have more wins then loses but are not mede to be boxers, so pro fighters are truly animals)

Weird that George Chuvalo ate more bombs than anyone in the history of the sport yet you would never be able to tell.

No, that's how most brothas from Georgia talk. Just listen to Gucci Mane, Wacka Flocka, or TI talk.
