You cant beat Loma unless you back him up

I'd be more than happy to see Lomachenko vs Linares next.

Lomachenko is a big favourite obviously, but as you say when Linares gets going his boxing is a beauty to watch. Unfortunately sometimes he just doesn't seem to find his rhythm, and I have a sneaky feeling that Loma will frustrate him. But still, excellent fight.

 

The reason why they don’t is because Linares is somewhat chinny and cuts easily, offensively his handspeed and size will give Loma problems but defensively he may not have what it takes. With that being said I don’t think Loma is a big puncher but neither was Kevin Mitchell.

 

I think if Loma's against the wall, or theres a hint of him losing, he'll up it again. How can people even do some of these things with footwork that he possesses. Its all footwork related with him and positioning. I cant at the moment see how to beat him even if you manage to put him on the back foot !

 

Well, it's better than trying to out box him. Rigo tried that and if he can't then who can?

I reckon Lomachenko is the product of one of those Cold War laboratories like Ivan Drago from Rocky iii. Only in this world there is no Balboa ...

 

I remember Randy Couture being asked about how to beat Fedor years ago,well before he started slipping and losing. His answer is the same as what I think of loma, " Right now, hes unbeatable, simple"...Lol, it does seem that hes a product of a lab experiment !

 

I agree with his speed combinations and skill he would do better against Loma than would Garcia but in the end he still has no chance. No one has. I also agree that Linares is not recognised enough. I love watching him box. I got him 6 or 7 on p4p list.

 

Well i think let's start with not quitting. Before we talk about backing him up.

 

The only way to beat him is to show him something he's never seen, and hope the rounds run out before he adjusts to it. The Salido fight showed that with pacing (his first 12 rounder) and the rough housing.

Problem is, that only works the one time. Loma learns and applies too quickly and efficiently for a repeat to work.

So, what's left out there he hasn't seen? Pure speed didn't work. Counterpunchers are screwed. Brawlers are too basic, and even skilled boxer punchers are too conventional. He's adapted to dirty tactics, so you can't spoil him.

 

Agree with everything apart from Linares having no chance. Loma has never met anybody like Linares in his career thus far.
Id be confidant that if you put Rigo from last weekend in front of Linares he'd end up flat on his back and Linares would end up walking away looking 10x better than he already is.
If Loma beats Linares and makes it look easy then we're dealing with somebody magical , but id have to see it first before id believe it.

 

Don't you think it's a bit sad that you have to become 'smarter' in how you deal with professional referees to get them to officiate a fight properly?

 

Basically, he won't be beat from now on?

 

I think oversimplifying the strategy against Nomas is the way to go. Your other option is try to outbox him (forget that). The strategy to use against him would be always going forward try to make it brawl. That said his skill may be too much.

 

It's going to take a fluke for someone under 140 to do the trick. Mikey is a prototype boxer puncher with HOF chops, but he's too textbook.

And if hes able to put good weight on, 140 is out of luck, too. That's probably his ceiling.

It's too bad he wasn't a little bigger naturally, as I'd have loved to see him at 147.

 

Linares is a tremendously gifted offensive talent, and actually has a better styles matchup than most others do vs Loma.

If Loma shuts him down, that's an accomplishment worth bragging about.
