Louis has only an ARGUABLY better jab and ARGUABLE better power. Tyson had better speed and timing. Tyson had better footwork. Tyson had better defense Tyson was stronger than joe much better head movement. No pre Super- HW is beating tyson
Louis had far more accuracy than Tyson. The other real big thing he did was to not telegraph punches or what he was going to do. Fra superior corner. master counterpuncher & we saw what Commander Vander did by just making Mike miss a little. If Mike gets countered clean by this guy, it's a problem. Tyson telegraphs with his upper body movement. I think Joe--and that pre-fight preperations from that corner--read him like a see **** and Jane kids book.
Evander and Louis are not relatable fighters imo. Evander had a hop in his step that louis did not have
I wouldn't favor Joe Louis to beat Mike Tyson myself. But its not beyond the realm of possibility that he might. He rose off the canvas several times to win fights, defeated a wide array of men of all different shapes, sizes and styles - some of whom were legitimate greats.. He could go 15 rounds when needed and then again, blast a man out within seconds of the opening bell ( more often the case. ) His timing, accuracy, hand speed and combination punching was unequaled.. My problem with picking Louis however was that I think its a bad stylistic matchup for him. Joe had the tendency to get in trouble early in fights which was when Tyson did his best work. He was decked and staggered periodically by lesser men in the first half of a contest. He also seemed to get tagged and hurt a lot with left hooks which is a punch that Tyson mastered and finished a lot of guys with.. Mike wasn't built much for the long haul but his chin could take quite a bit of pounding as Bonecrusher Smith, Frank Bruno and Razor Ruddock discovered. he was excellent at slipping the jab and coming back with ferocious shots... Louis even said once himself that he did not like these types of fighters when referencing Rocky Marciano. Its certainly possible that the Brown bomber might have beaten Iron Mike.. But as I've said many times before, he'd have to weather a very nasty storm early in order to make it happen and if Tyson got him in serious trouble early and didn't let him off the hook, Joe might have gotten stopped.
In a fantasy prime fight, Louis wouldn't be fighting the Tyson of 96/97, he'd be facing the version from a decade before.
prime tyson would knock louis out in 2 rounds. there's not a lick of joe louis footage that convinces me otherwise.
That vid like all he has done in recent times is joking around...hes not going to go on a tv show as a guest and say he can beat up everyone...that being said he would beat up anyone whos card was shown anyway...Louis wouldn't make it out of round one against someone like that,if you have doubts watch Louis vs Braddock!
