I think Dirrell could gave won the fight by a wide margin, by the way. His inexperiance caused him to givexaway too many rounds by not putting in a good effort. He seemed lost after getting him and it cost him dearly.
This is one of the things I hate most about boxing. Why the **** should a challenger have to do anything extra to get the win? The way I see it, you shouldn't even take that into consideration because ALL THAT MATTERS IS THE FIGHT! NOT WHO HAS THE BELT! If I was a judge and I felt fighter A was on the backfoot but still outboxing his opponent, I would give him the round. I wouldn't think "yes he probably nicked that round but because he's the challenger he should have won it more decisively, he should be the agressor so because of that I'll give the round to fighter B". Ridiculous.
This ^ Froch was ****. Dirrell was ****. Stalemate. Froch retains the belt. Not worth a trip to Nottingham for.
Sure. But one guy deserved it less. The guy who had the less skill, and as a result, got outboxed. The guy who got outpunched by what appears to be around 2:1 The guy who landed a handful of punches. The one who people are saying deserved to win because he was there to fight. Well, this is boxing, and you only get rewarded for effective aggression. Being a punching bag - even if you keep moving forwards - is still an absolute guarantee to be the loser. Unless you have judges who are incompetent or corrupt. So pointing out that Dirrel didn't do enough to take the belt? Well Froch did even less to keep it. Saying Dirrell didn't deserve to win? Froch deserved it less. There is no excuse.
I was wrong about Dirrell in many regards, but not in the one where I thought he still had the ameteur's mentality. It's a fight, not bean counting.
Exactly I also had it 6-6. I am a big Mayweather hater but what Mayweather does is run to set up his offense and disrupt his opponents offence, this guy just runs at every opportunity. When was the last time you saw Mayweather falling over 6 times in a fight? This was reminiscent of Zahir Raheem in his fight with Acelino Freitas. Thank god in both cases the judges rewarded those fighters who were ready to fight.
You need to watch the fight again if you think Direll was doing the punching ala Mayweather when he pot shoted JMM. The guy just ran and his punches were landing on the gloves. JMM was busted up after the fight with Mayweather, Froch was fresh like a daisy.
Its tough for Froch to look good against a guy who didn't come to fight nor to win. Dirrell should be expelled from the tournament or at least receive a warning. This tournament is a marketing campaign for the sport of boxing, these men were picked to write history. Dirrell disrespected the sport and was a disgrace for his home country.
I don't know why ppl make this much out of this fight, anyways neither of them is going to win the tournament... then again, FROCH WON...LIKE IT OR NOT!:bolt
