You Donaire fans are mad if you think that he can defeat a God.

    Kawashima fits that bill IYO?

And as long as we're talking styles, why is it inconceivable that Maldonado stylistically can stay competitive with Mijares, but lose a one-sided decision to Donaire, who himself could lose a one-sided decision to Mijares? There's plenty of anecdotal examples of styles working out that way in the sport, why is everybody acting like it couldn't apply here, like Maldonado is some kind of black-and-white touchstone for comparing talent?

Good post. Not only competition but the way they look in the ring. The problem that I have is that people actually seriously saying that Nonitos skills aint at par with Mijares when it was very impressive. Everyone at ringside was impressed with the skill..forget the resume..because as far as resume goes Nonito is ahead of Mijares already

Bigreg, why the hell cant I get a good Philly cheesesteak outside of Philly? How hard is this ****! seriously..

I'm talking more specifically about his last two opponents, particuarlly Gorjux. No other alleged elite fighter would ever get away with such a disgraceful defense. This guy isn't even top 100 in that divsion.

Are you his manager? What fights were available to him at the time he made those two defenses? Would you rather have him be an inactive champion?

They were crap fights, sure, and especially disappointing for me in the wake of his momentum after the Arce fight; I had expected big fights. But if they weren't meant to be just yet then I am content to wait. As long as he dominates every bum du jour (check), I'm happy with him staying active.

Donaire looked really good out there. Despite what people are saying about his defense, he really only got hit when he opened himself up. I definately want to see him fight some more, but from what I've seen so far, I think a fight between he and Mijares would be a good matchup. As far as the cheesesteaks, other places just don't get it. Most of them use the wrong type of bread, and don't know how to season the meat. If you want a good cheesesteak you have to be in Philly, or South Jersey.

Good post but not the best...heres the best ..

Arce beame famous for his fight with Hussein Hussein..This was a showcase fight for Arce..but what many people forgot is that Hussein 2x was very competitive in that fight..his problem was that he was feather fisted and would not listen to his cornerman the great Jeff Fenech who told him to box. After watching this fight..I knew it was just a matter of time for someone to beat Jorge.

Now thats the best post!!..I really dont like to get too serious about boxing posts but im getting pissed

I want someone to show me where I said something BAD or disparaging about Nonito Donaire in this thread, or any, other than he would lose to Mijares. Please. Show me.

Mijares did not simply "beat" Arce, as yes, many a decent boxer probably could.

He beat him as bad if not worse than Calzaghe beat Lacy! :deal

Again, does Calzaghe get a high ranking because Lacy was so incredibly worthy (pfft...) when he beat him? No, he gets it because he looked fantastic in demolishing a hyped guy with a good record (same exact situation as Mijares-Arce). It's not that Jorge is all that and nobody could beat him, it's that it's very doubtful anyone could do what Cristian did to him.

Youve been fair..you actually did a good rbr..Its the mijares worshipping that gets to me..because truthfully..theres alot of B level boxer out there that would look supernatural against Arce.

Now Vic in comparison have demolished every "slick" boxer hes faced including Nonitos older brother...Vic is better than Arce..you cant beat him brawling hes got dynamite power and better range..
now what happened in his fight with Nonito is that he faced someone who has more natural talent than him and just as explosive

not trying to do boxing math here but the formula tilts on Nonitos favor

Gorjux wasn't even ranked by the WBC in August, then jumped to number 10 in September without fighting anyone. His 3 oppnents before Mijares were 8-12,8-9, and 1-26. His last opponent was 1-40. This guy is a 4th tier fight and is literally not even a top 100 fighter in that division. There is no defending him fighting this guy. You have to be top 10 to get a title shot. The fact that his guy went from not even ranked(they rank the top 40) to number 10 after beating an 8-12 fighter further lets me know that someone was paid off to get this guy ranked this high. Face it, it was a disgraceful defense. Your'e going to tell me none of the 40 guys who were legitimately ranked by the WBC were available?

mijares should really start fighting boxers who can compete. his fights after arce were not really fights. they were a showcase of mijares talents

    :conf

I'm not in charge of these things. If I had my way and infinite pull in the boxing community, Cristian would unify and then invite fly and bantam champs to step in the ring with him. As it is, I patiently await his next good matchup...because he certainly hasn't had one since Arce (and you could probably even say since before, although that fight was important for bringing him to prominence)
