Who said Williams was out of shape? Don't make fanboy excuses.

I see what people are saying, but does it REALLY really matter?

Does it make any differance if mosley had held a belt when cotto beat him? or clottey? or quintana?

To me, fighters make the belts, belts dont make the fighters (for the most part)

and Mosley, Clottey, Quintana, judah, torres, and malignaggi are impressive, wether they held a title or not.

that being said... its a valid point, as belts DO MEAN something, even if not as much as i personally think they do, but in cottos case, its not like hes ducked and dodged around the title holders, imo, its just the way things played out. The guy has fought just about everyone there is to fight.

Is true, but it is not as if he has taken an easy rute to defend the title.

Why say that he has never beaten a reigning champ!

A fan can give him credit for defending his titles against, Maussa Torres, Bailey, Paulie, Quintana, Judah, Mosley, Margarito, Clottey. etc.

He could have easily avoid the fights against Margarito, Clottey, Mosley and still he fought them (where's the credit in that), yes he lost to Margarito, then won a 'vacant title' to defend it against none other than Clottey (more respect).

It is better to win a vacant title and defend it against quality opposition than to keep fighting tomato cans so that nobody takes the title from you. Defending the title against quality opposition will make the boxer feel more like a champion, the people will percieve him as a champion and he can say proudly "I am the champion".

Look at Williams body in the first Quintana fight and compare to the rematch and you tell me if Williams wasn't out of shape in the first fight.

Cotto has never been Champion of a division. He has won titles, fought 2 fighters in Margo & Clottey who vacated titles they had but neither of them was the Linear Champion.

I still got Cotto to beat Pac.

That's all I'm saying man. Very few people on this board can objectivly talk about fighters. Does he have good wins, sure but he has never beaten the guy that was considered the man of the division. Mosley went on to be considered the man afterwards but at the time Cotto fought him he was considered washed up.

well in this case this argument is about as ridiculous as saying that Zsolt Erdei is the man since he held and defended his bathrobe sash for so long.

No he wasn't out of shape, he was training here in Puerto Rico for that fight. I even remember Ivan Calderon's trainer Pintor said that Williams was training very hard and was praising his condition and saying that Paul was surely to beat Quintana.

The difference was that in his training camp they didn't spar against lefties (dumb if you ask me, Williams team admitted that later on). They OVER estimated Quintana, plain and simple. he learned his lesson.

    Exactly,,, :good

Vacant belts or not, nobody can question Cotto's choice of opponents at 147lbs. He fights the best... no questions asked.

Quintana, Judah, Mosley, Margarito, Clottey and Pac. :deal
