He knew he was losing and had nothing to lose really so he opened up. It's still insane for a 49 year old to do that and stay on his feet against a murderous puncher like Kovalev. Mayweather, on the other hand, was clearly winning and didn't need to risk jack to entertain a bunch of fat losers who are praying to see him lose.
Exactly. Hopkins was beaten for 12 rounds and his only chance of a win was a KO whereas Mayweather dominated the second fight and being so far ahead on points decided to take the last round 'off'. Both were disappointing but either way the outcome was correct.
Given the fact Hopkins made several references to Floyd for taking soft touches and not making the big fights during the lead up to Kov-Hops, it could be quite a lot depending on the context. :smoke
He threw 15 punches a round. THREW 15 punches a round. It's retirement time. He needs to stop wasting everybody's time.
You might want to give Kovalev credit there for forcing him to be inactive by constantly feinting and keeping active.
What about the first castillio fight it was really close and mayweather in the 12th round ran it just is not a good look man. One example of balls Morales in the first fight with pac was clearly ahead what did he do in the 12th round he turned southpaw and invited pac to slug it out in the middle of the ring he did not have to do that he could of just boxed him that was bad ass by way:good
He went for broke because he had no chance to win a decision. Floyd wasn't in that situation. Let's not be so biased.
You all forgot that he quit against Dawson don't you ? And tired getting clazaghe and a shot roy jones dq'd
lol yeah B-Hop shoulda been DQ'd vs Roy in 2010. That was just ridiculous. The low blow, the rabbit punches, the headbutt in the 11th. For Hopkins to hit the canvas in agony 3 times from borderline stuff from Jones really lost Bernard a lot of respect. To his credit he has fought better since then. Speaking of which, Roy Jones vs Bernard Hopkins. Who wouldn't wanna see it again? After getting swept by Kovalev I think Hopkins has entered shot territory or at least faded territory himself. Unless Hopkins fights Stevenson or Roy fights Huck at cruiser I think a fitting end to both of their careers would be to fight each other a 3rd time and have a real rubber match.
