when he's trying to finish Cotto off? I hadn't noticed it before but it is shocking. Floyd's jab, I have to believe, is faster. And he has the range advantage. I'll blow my load if Floyd loses and I still think he will but this is somewhat disconcerting.

You've already said it. Pac has nothing left to fear that he waded in with little regard for Cotto's power.

A lot of fighters who try to walk over an opponent who can't hurt them displays the same defensive lapse.

I'm sure Roach and Pac will work it out.

yeah, that's one of the reasons i'm seeing floyd winning by decision (the main reason is his superb defence).

Lets not forget the first few rounds though. Pac was eating non stop jab sandwich. Cotto clearly exposed Pacs lack of body defence.

Come fight night he will be eating jab sandwich with right hand soup all night long.

And then Pac landed a vaunted power punch and the fight was basically over.

Expect Floyd to slide in a defensive shell and try to potshot just to last the distance.

Pac was in total control of the fight though...I think people make a bigger deal about that then they should.

Im inclined to agree. Floyd Jr will no way in hell risk getting into a physical fight.

And despite his jab, he cant honestly believe he can slip and duck EVERY punch pac throws.

Pacquiao has faster hands than Floyd (YES I SAID IT) and throws from unconventional angles, his punches wont be easy to predict. And he throws in combination.

Mayweather also has his own defensive patterns that he frequently uses over and over, you can bet Roach will be working with Pacquaio on this

If Floyd gets caught with anything hard, he'll make the fight and ugly avoid engaging. He'll try to walk Pac backwards and play defense the whole night.

He can't expect to slip/dodge every punch, no. Even Marquez hit him a couple of times and he looks like a turd hardening in comparison to Manny. I do have a feeling he has a solid chin though, in spite of being untested, I just don't think he has the survival instinct when things go very, very wrong, since he quite simply has never had to develop it.

Against Zab whenever Floyd was caught even marginally he just clammed up and stood there. If he does that against Manny he will get fcking murdered.

Yup, and Cotto has one of the strongest jabs in the division. Amazing how Pac was able to walk through it. And when Pac caught up/ adjusted to the fight, which was bound to happen anyways, He was able to land a powerful uppercut that basically concluded the fight. Even Cotto's body shots were useless. Roach should be able to come up with a plan. And Floyd better be ready for his own back up plan.

and dont forget that floyd rarely uses his jab anyway and usually just leads with left hooks and then leads with straight rights later in the fight. he does have a decent jab but he doesnt throw it we'll see if he finds it necessary to use it against many.

jab aint K'oing nbody but it would set up a nice right down the pipe for Floy. But FLOY is clever he sets you up to run into a punches.Pac would make a mistake to rush this guy. Floy ( i watch his clips) he has patterns that I won't say and I feel is his weakness and Pac can cue in on it there's a green light when to smash him and when to just pull back and be careful..

Believe it or not, Cotto's jab is crispier than Floyd's. He jabbed a lot (not enough though) and Floyd is not really a jabber, he just has a good one in his arsenal but does not build his gameplan around it. Hiding behind the shoulder and jabbing all night doesn't come together. Floyd's weapon will be the straight right without being set up by the jab. Interestingly, Dwyer's theory of Cotto landing the jab was that Pac purposefully offered a stationary target forcing Miguel to throw the jab instead of the much more dangerous left hook. Actually you don't see Pac's head being snapped back with the jab in other fights too often.

On the other hand, watch old De La Hoya throwing the jab for four rounds vs. Mayweather and winning four rounds - IMO the reason Floyd purposefully choosing shorter reached opponents without a great jab is because the distant jab has the best success rate vs. him. His first line of defense is opponent selection and Pac is at a size, weight, reach and style disadvantage.
