You guys realise... that cotto is basically cleaning out 147 right?

You guys get so mad that hes gonna be fighting gomez and mayorga, yet somehow overlook the fact that he will also be fighting the winner of the championship fight between cintron and margarito.

so in 2008, if he stays unbeaten... at 147 he will have

Beat other titleholder Margarito (i think margarito will win rematch)
    Beat Sugar Shane Mosley
    Beat other titleholder Quintana
    Beat Zab Judah

Cintron will be coming back from the margarito fight again
Williams will hardly be in a position to fight cotto this year after this loss

    so that leaves out

    mosley
    margarito
    quintana
    judah
    cintron
    williams

    and you guys are complaining?

There is less then a handful of fights that make for better choices then mayorga... Mayweather for sure, and hes just as much to blame for not making this fight as cotto.... if not more, and the rest are all debatable.

Mayorga brings exposure, big name, big $$$$, a semi dangerous opponent, and a exciting night fight...

think some should just calm down....

I agree those are great points. He has a very good resume already. But I think Arum is now backing off the chance of him fighting the margarito/ cintron winner to fight Mayorga and to me that doesn't make since. That would be going backwards. Maybe after he beats the winner of that fight he should fight mayorga.

Cotto has the resume of FIGHTERS.

He needs the names now...he needs the Ricardo Mayorgas, Alfonso Gomezes and if possible the Oscar De La Hoya's of the world now.

A fight with Floyd is all dependent on how popular Cotto is heading into 2009.

The fact that he has already lined up Mayorga before beating Gomez and waiting for the winner of Cintron-Margo, suggests to me that he has hand picked Mayorga. I thik his promoter sees what the rest of us see, Mayorga is an ''entertaining' slugger who is there for the taking. Gomez and Mayorga are just there to make Cotto look good.

his resume is excellent though and is getting better all the time as he victims keep coming back to win world titles.

I personally see Kermit beating Margo in the rematch, I want to see Cotto - Cintron, MSG would be rockin for that!

Of course mayorga is a hand picked opponent.... thats what he is nowdays for ANYONE. hes not a ranked fighter, so ANYONE that fights him is hand picking him...

i dont see the problem with that... like i said, big deal, hes fighting a hand picked opponent for once at WW. Its going to be after he just beat a fellow titleholder.... i think he would have earned that.

    just imo

Excellent point Kirk, people don't realize just how popular Gomez is around the west coast.....I know some people who recognize his name and don't even know who Cotto is.....

Exposure is key, Money May will basically be forced to face Cotto win lose or draw.

Yes I believe Mayorga is a back up option in case Kermit Cintron "hurts his hand" again.

I figure Cotto-Margo will happen before a fight with Ricardo does.

Yeah, I came to realise that he wants to steamroll all of them outa there justlikethat and he's not changing his mind about the pathway - Quintana, Judah, Mosley, Gomez, winner of Margo-Cintron, maybe even Mayorga, Mayweather - I mean, this guy is fu**in unbelievable, what a great fighter Miguel is.

yeah I think Gomez is going to be a tough fight for Cotto. He is a straight puncher and the people he have given Cotto problems in the past are straight punchers. He doesn't throw big wide punches exposing him self to body shots which is what Cotto is extremely good at. He's tough, and has fairly good defense. It will be a better fight then people think.

    I'm calm
You bring up some important points however I think Mayorga would be a shitty pick by Arum....I think people underrate Gomez alot...some will laugh but I see it being Cotto's toughest challenge to date....After this he should go after another title
As I've stated in other threads Mayorga is pointless does nothing for Cotto...why fight a warrior whos known mainly for all the beatdowns he's been handed by great fighters?? It's just dumb and won't make nearly the money a unification would
Its a bigger step down in opposition than your implying
It certainly doesn't give him anymore credibility or confidence
Most importantly it doesn't get him any closer to PBF whereas I feel a unification would
I imagine it would be tough for PBF to avoid Cotto if he has the other 3 belts
