Cotto's already faced and defeated the #2, #3, and #6 rated contenders. Urkal was #10 when Cotto beat him. Gomez has been rated in the Top 10 by ring, and is certainly Top 20, and Mayorga is a former champ at 147lbs.

That's pretty impressive, to say the least.

What is totally baffling to me is why no one, Arum included, is talking about Cotto fighting Floyd. After beating Mosely, that would be the next logical step. But no, Floyds off to the Senior Prom to waltz with DLH again, in a rematch of a fight that was pointless to begin with. And Cottos commited to glorified club fighter Gomez and punching bag for the stars Mayorga. If Mosely against Cotto packed The Garden, wouldn't Mayweather-Cotto do at least as well?

 

His legacy can truly be cemented if Mayweather gives him a shot and if he wins.

 

It would be a tragedy if Mayweather and Cotto never fight.

Imagine if Leonard/Hearns/Duran never fought each other?

imagine if Morales and Barrera never fought each other?

Jones not fight DM and Ottke not fighting Calzaghe was bad but both had legit reasons for not happening, there is no reason why Cotto and Mayweather cant get it on.

 

Mayweather has done **** all compared to Cotto at 147....
PBF was one of the greatest Superfeathers that's about it until he fights and beats Cotto which I'm not sure he can do

Maybe, but I cant see the likes of Gomez being able to hang in there with the likes of Cotto, he has already beaten better fighters more comfortably.

 

I think we all underestimate Gomez(who would put Mayorga in permanent retirement)and Cotto and PBF are an elite level above the rest of 147
And as has been stated by many the belt is only as good as the person holding it and if PBF doesn't validate his ownership of the WBC strap he holds by fighting legitimate WW's before long that belt will mean **** ALL...espescially when Cotto's holding the other 3
How can anyone argue that PBF wasn't a good SFW?? Any clue what made him one of the greatest SFWs?? He fought the best people...so if he wants to achieve the same level of dominance at WW he must beat the best at WW...how this is even debated is baffeling:roll:

 

Why do they belts mean so much to you?


Technically Cotto shouldn't be holding a belt at all. The only true other available title should be the WBO.

 

As I've stated the fighter gives the belt credibility...and it so happens this is a sport where you have to remind people of your dominance by defending the title against the best in said division....Defending the title is a big part of being a champion:roll: The belts mean more to the fighters than you may think..as it means money and some respect....not sure I understand your warped logic on how Cotto should'nt be holding a title
