I hope this doesn't happen, the guy is clearly done. Not even a gatekeeper at this rate...

Thats because the sport as a whole has not grown to its full potential. I personally would like too see more weight classes, that would easily make more superfights.

MMA has a way too go but ots coming along nicely.

Boxing (queensberry rules) is a sport that has been around for hundreds years and beyond that, boxing has always been big and always will be big,

it's funny how it is taking a sport that involves so many sub-martial arts (kickboxing, karate, TKD, BJJ, wrestling, muay thai, etc) to reach the level of boxing (one single sport)

it has taken all of these martial arts together to become popular, all of these the martial arts i mentioned above are not at all popular in the mainstream and what not by themselves, Boxing is still single handedly as popular as all of these sports combined

mma is like ice hockey.. somewhat big in the US, Canada with a strong following in Eastern Europe, in Russia etc but not really as popular anywhere else in the world,

same goes for Gridiron, it is popular in the US, Canada with little spots of interest around the world, but nothing more than that

MMA's growing in popularity quite quickly here in Australia, there's a heap of smaller shows all the time and I think Dana White even hinted in an interview they'd like to brong the UFC to oz

Hate to break it to ya but BJJ is absolutely huge worldwide, TKD is an olympic aport, I am personally not sure about other sports. And, I find there is a bit of contradiction when you compare a sport that had hundreds of years to grow against another sport that hasn't been around for more than 20.

I don't know why people are so against MMA its a very competitive sport and exciting to watch.

You just mentioned half the world. Hockey is a huge sport. If you don't follow it then your not really going to hear about it. I don't really watch NFL so is it ok for me too assume that its not that big anywhere besides the states?

I will mention a few huge hockey countries for ya

    Canada of course
    Czec republic
    Sweden
    Fance
    Russia
    Ice Land
    Poland
    Finland.... huge there

Place in the States that it is huge in

    Boston
    Pittsburgh
    New York
    Minnesota
    Michigan

These are just places off the top of my head.

You shouldn't just assume things that your not really sure off.

BJJ is not that popular worldwide. Its certainly a sport that people practice and is becoming somewhat popular in Europe etc but its nowhere near as popular worldwide as boxing and it never will.

Im not so sure about it being HUGE over in those bolded countries.

And once again, they are certainly played in those countries but its NOT huge. You ever watched those junior hockey tournaments? The crowds are terrible and nobody cares about it. Thats why most want it in Canada every year.

The hockey comparison to MMA is actually pretty good.

    Yeah pretty much.

I can almost state for a fact that its not huge in Boston. Its the least popular sport among the big 4.

The states pump millions of dollars into that sport. People wouldn't do that for 15 000 people per state.

Absolutely its the least popular a lot of people in the states don't even know what hockey is right now. But is gaining momentum the states have bought Canadian teams and kept them alive and a lot of people are starting to like it.

Oh ya I forgot too mention. When I was in Bosnia there wasn't a country there on the base that wasn't watching the world Juniors. We are talking hundreds of people here.

When we played the czecs in a tourny they almost beat us. When we played the Brits I am sorry to say we destroyed them. Britain is a place where hockey doesn't exist it was funny too watch. But our deal with the Brits was if they played us in hocley we would play them in Soccer (football). Needless to say we got murdered .
