everybody keeps talking about wight issue with the marquez fight. but the question is, is it that big of a deal. guys use to move up inwieght and fight bigger men all the time back in the day because they were so good, they could fight bigger fighters and beat them.the issue wieght gets overrated nowadys because all the wieght classes. but a while ago there was no 154 or 140, you were either a lightwieght, welterwieght or middleweight. so you were gonna end fighting somebody who was not you extact size, but it didnt matter, if you were better, more then likely you were gonna win. weight is a factor but usually, the deciding factor is who the better man, whether it be the smaller guy or the bigger guy.
People are acting like this kind of stuff never happens in boxing and that Floyd is the first to do such a thing. They are also acting like Floyd is the size of Paul Williams compared to Marquez.
Interesting question: how many times in the past decade has a fighter jumped 2 divisions for a fight? Pac did v Oscar, Jones did v Ruiz - but Oscar was well past-prime and Ruiz was... Ruiz. Can anyone think of any others, or is Marquez the first to attempt this v serious opposition? Hopkins did v Tarver, and I'm sure there are others that I just can't think of at the moment.
its bigger then the mayweather fight. you notcie that wieght its taked about alot in otehr fights as well.
Suppose the phrase 'good big man beats good little man' comes from nowhere too. Weight matters in boxing, natural fighting weight matters even more. All the time we see people moving up in weight and not being as powerful or as quick or as resilient. The divisions are there for a reason.
Wright and Pavlik both jumped two divisions to fight Hopkins. Larios jumped 2 divisions to fight Pac after getting stopped by Vazquez. Mosley went right for LW to WW. Williams jumped two divisions to fight Kolle. Williams was also close to jumping two divisions to fight Pavlik.
Weight is definately a factor. In this fight, Marquez's declining reflexes and defense will probably be a bigger problem.
Just because a couple of ******s are going overboard with it doesn't mean it isn't a legit issue to ***** about.
Agreed 100%. I sometimes wish all the in-between divisions would have never been created. It's gotten ridiculous with all the talk of catch-weights when so many divisions exist. Champions from one division have always went up in weight to challenge the top fighters in other divisions. And the weigh-ins were on the same day. One of the only fighters that ever fights at basically the same weight that they weigh in at is Floyd Mayweather. People forget that.
