Wrong - that worked because they are exceptional athletes who had great stories to tell. Mayweather wouldn't have sold **** if he was an incredible fighter. Tyson wouldn't have been of interest if he wasn't destroying everyone around him. Haye wouldn't have gotten so big if he hadn't seen the potential in the David/Goliath comparison.

Also, DeGale lacks a tenth of Tyson or Mayweather's charisma.

Simple really, get him on a few talk shows and get him to tell a few sad childhood stories, maybe have him cry a little bit... ok not cry but hold back the tears as he tells the nation somebody once tried to saddle him because they thought he was a horse.

also this is a must... get him back on side with the gingers. maybe take him to scotland so he can mix with lots of gingers and we can film a touching moment James realises his hatred towards gingers goes all the way back to that nasty little ginger kid who tried to saddle him thinking he was a horse... more holding back of tears, ending with a shot of him saying something like "I think deep down i'm really a ginger stuck in a brunettes body" and then James sobbing and hugging a ginger.

I think I could turn him into the next Frank Bruno......

I would do a Michael Jackson, as in bleach his face the whiter he becomes the bigger he becomes to mass public. Can anyone name me a black British boxer that has been a success in last 15yrs ?

Mate your talking **** with regards to the olympic medal. It is still hard as **** to win and a great honour. And amateur boxing hasnt been like what it was like about sevev or eight years ago for some time. An emphasis is placed on having a great guard and only the cleanest most effective punches are scored.

I think you need to realise I’ve become DeGale’s personal troll because I’m fed up of the bizarre praise he gets for some imaginary “potential” and some “talent” that he’s still to display.

Anyway, amateur boxing has been a total joke since the Olympics in Seoul. Any sort of scoring that rewards fencing with gloves, disregards body work and allows a fighter to land one clean shot, run and still win doesn’t scream “admirable” to me.

Of course it’s a thing to win a Gold medal and a significant achievement, but it needs to be viewed in the context of amateur boxing. A quick look Andre Dirrell, who was a very successful am, tells you all you need to know.

for you to call amateur boxing a joke is very disrespectful I think. Sure its not ideal or similar to the pro game anymore. But I think it has improved quite a bit in terms of scoring a least a bit since its dire years of seven or eight years ago. Ander Direll was a poduct of that terrible 04 era, so you can blame his amateur like flaws on that.

Your stereotypical views on amateur boxing is disapointing, many amateurs still make good pros and amateur boxing is still an impotant part of boxing dispite its flaws:bart

It’s a valuable proving ground, but unlike in the 70s and 80s it doesn’t encourage a rounded selection of skills. Basically, many amateurs (and a worrying amount of coaches) view good boxing as being negative and flicking out the jab.

That’s not all amateur boxing’s fault but the massive deterioration of skills between even the 90s and can be traced to the dissolution of pro-style scoring.

I know they brought it in to avoid a repeat of Jones Jr getting robbed, but it has encouraged a pot-shotting style where being negative can net you a win more easily than effective aggression.

It’s just my view – you don’t need to get upset about it. DeGale’s amateur mentality has carried over with him. He likes to sit back after scoring because, in the past, he’d be rewarded regardless of fighting or not. All he had to do to win was land one more shot.

That’s fine for table tennis, but not in a more subjective sport like boxing.

Then he would be a white Londoner talking like a black Londoner and than would make him massively more annoying :deal

David Haye has been successful in crossing over to mainstream. Did all the big talkshows, back page of papers and spreads within.

How about paying off Groves to finally let DeGale win, that might give him confidence, No?

He needs to fight Froch in Nottingham. Let Froch talk about what he is going to do and stay humble and thank Froch for opportunity etc admitting it is a huge step up.

Then he needs to lose a 12 round UD despite winning on all of ESB's cards.

    Redemption will follow.
