Thing that made it hard for Cortez was that Mayweather was hugging right back at Hatton, which gave Cortez no choice, you see in the Castillo fight Castillo was just cowering, Mayeather was giving Cortez no choice but to break them up.

when two guys clinch and one of them (mayweather) sticks his forearm in the other's throat, as he is wont to do, or when the other (Hatton) gets his opponent in a headlock, then the clinch should be broken. That's what was happening in the first round when they came together, Hatton even bent Mayweather's arm back exactly like Tyson did to Botha.
Just to play devil's advocate, don't you guys think that that set Cortez's mind to keeping them apart, to rewriting the script if you will? It was quite a dirty fight anyway but I think a ref who let them go at it would've made for a much much dirtier one.

All Mr Cortez did was enforce the rules. I dont see any problem with that at all. Its not like Hatton was working in the clinch. All he does is clinch and then do **** all when he gets there. PBF is a smarter fighter than him and knows all the tricks in the book. Hatton got a taste of his own medicine and it sure doesnt taste good.

Hattons got a really bad habit of having to clinch to set himself to get the body shots off, he clinches, sets himself, projects his weight then lets the shots go, hes done it for years.

Cortez was breaking them before he was getting half way through his little routine, any ref who does this will always cost Hatton inside until he learns to box his way in and flow straight into inside work.

Not Cortez fault really, saying that i think he was real easy on Floyd as Floyd obviously wasnt going to let Hatton do this, so he tied him up and used a high forearm to keep his weight off him.......im bitter :nono

Cortez had a shocker, but so did Hatton to be fair.

With a more suitable referee, it would have been 117-111, with a better performance from Hatton to go with the better referee, perhaps 115-113, there are only two certainties:

    1. PBF would not have TKO'd Hatton
    2. Hatton would not have won

That said, there isn't a thing I would like to see in boxing more than Mayweather flat on his back being counted out, with Hatton in the nearest neutral corner!

Mayweather should have been deducted a points for using his elbows and ducking below the belt

Yeh Hatton lost his way after 5-6 rounds, due to what been touched upon already, but i think he got ko'd due to many errors, one of them being he started stepping in with his head.

Floyd was so quick to pick up on it and started landing heavy with Hatton walking straight onto them, it made Floyd look like an awesome puncher but it was Hatton doubling the force of those shots.

Sad thing Hatton is probably the best single body shot puncher in the world and he hardly got to throw one, he just didnt the tactics right at all, very bull in a china shop, Floyd smashes up clumsiness all day everyday.....

    As I have said, perhaps!

Those kinds of fights are very difficult to score really, it depends on what you are looking for to be honest.

Either way, unless Hatton scores a KO, he wouldn't beat Floyd over 12 rounds.

Cortez did break up a few clinches before they began. But when there are a couple of hundred clutches, hes bound to misjudge a few. The rest of the time he was enforcing the rules. If someones been nicknamed 'hit and hold hatton', the refs job is to stop him hitting and holding. Cortez has been an excellent ref in the past. Part of the reason everyone is seeing it as a big issue is the cheer leading commentators

Mayweather-Hatton was never going to be easy to ref. And Hatton was brought up on his holding/wrestling illegal tactics

I disagree to an extent that Hatton had no chance what ever happened, the reason being what type of fighter beats Mayweather....

He cant be outboxed, not by anyone in that class anyway, the only way he gets beat is by a **** hot pressure fighter, i thought Hatton with the right tactics and being helluva lot cuter than he was may have been the man for the job, so did he, but he didnt get it right...

So who does, Cotto...... he cant take centre ring and box with him he got to apply clever pressure to him big time, but is he slick enough.

    Opinions Anyone.....

Hatton could fight Mayweather 1000 times with any ref in any size ring and Mayweather would win.
