That may well be true, but thats not the point re. Cortez' handling of the fight.

He got it all wrong, Rick took the brunt when both were at fault, Mayweather was never addressed

this is exactly what i thought when i read this thread, no way is he a good ref and enforcing the rules, the inconsistency is incredible, hopkins was free to headbutt etc all night he basically did what he wanted but hatton could not use his gameplan at all, and no i am not no nutthugger before you start that ****, some of you hatton haters amaze me

Calzaghe's corner did not complain about Hopkins, the Mayweather corner were complaining about Hatton.

He didnt he broke BHOPS-Joe up after the clinch did he not? The only difference is Hatton needs to wrestle aswell as hold. They didnt stop Hatton from holding/clinching and he didnt get docked points for clinching

They were both told about holding, not just Hatton

sorry thats rubbish, cant remeber bnard getting spoken to despite the clear need to hold and headbutt, he didnt even want to fight joe,joe made the fight, yet hatton was warned on numerous occasions, not allowed to hold at all and was deducted a point for a shot that did not land, what you said IMO is bollocks

Cortez was breaking Hatton-Mayweather before the clinch on occasions. Hopkins was allowed to wrestle and smother Calzaghe all fight. The same rules were not applied by the same ref in those two fights.

you know what, sometimes things like this happen. sometimes the ref appears to be on the others guys side, just like that night in 2005 when ricky fought a certain aussie/russian.

when the odds are stacked against you, that's when you see the real elite rise to the top and conquer against the odds.

one guy did just that, another didn't.

the elite and the very good.

Mayweather was not just clinching he was blatently using elbow and forearm, could be seen from thousands of miles away let alone feet away, this alone was never addressed....

Hopkins was shockin, Cortez stinks to high heaven ' Firm But Fair' my ass

So by that reasoning Zoo wasn't elite and Hatton was?

What exactly did the ref do to Mayweather that he had to "overcome" in that that fight?

that night? no, i think it's fairly obvious he was past his prime. still a very good fighter who could mix it at the top level but not what he once was.

uhhhhh i was referring to hatton and calzaghe as you kept mentioning cortez not doing either hatton or calzaghe any favours.

How am I supposed to know you are referring to Calzaghe when you make no mention in your post to either him or Hopkins?

Ricky didnt get docked points for clinching and continued to clinch, BHOPS did the same, whats your point other than you wanted the British fighter to win?

Actually BHOPS didnt hold as much as Hatton and he countered Calazage silly so he must have wanted to fight on occasion :yep
