When there are 30-50 clinches a round and Cortez job becomes clinch breaker, isnt this inevitable? It was messy early, if it wasnt for Cortez we would have had an MMA fight

Your allowed to block punches with elbows, half the time Ricky walked into elbows, it is a Mayweather tactic to use the elbow for defense and as part of his inside game. Ricky's happy to hit and hold in nearly all his fights

I know in his other fights you havent seen this but opponents sometimes fight back :yep

BHOPs landed the cleaner punches, Calazage threw more but most of it ineffective, BHOPs counters were clean and crisp Calazages shots were not

BHOPS and Mayweather were both suttle in their fouling, Hatton is blatant as hell

Thats very true, it still means that Cortez was falling down on the job though. We can split hairs all day on the two fights but no reasonable person can say they were refereed with consistancy over the two bouts.

The point being the elbows were being used to hold ricky off when the fighters were already together, even push him off with them, he wasnt blocking punches with them.

Bottom line is it was not legal and was not addressed.....yeh...

Whether Ricky hits and holds in other fights isnt relevant.

Actually the elbows come up as a defense and are used to roll his opponent away and yes they do get into an oncomming opponents face

Its illegal to push with the hands or elbows. Its not a tickling contest you know  Every fighter has small fouls and Mayweathers tactics were not blatant fouls. Wrestling is a blatant foul.

Mayweathers elbows are hard to ref anyway - is it Mayweather fault the elbow goes into the head or the opponents for moving into the elbow? Is Mayweather supposed to drop his hands to let Hatton have free shots? Mayweather slightly bends the rules with his elbows but it isnt a blatant foul, you cant stop him for using the elbow to block shots so thats the issue

Suttle fouls are hard to ref - are they purposeful or accidental? Or are they even fouls? Which fighters fault is the foul?

Thats why allot of fighters get away with headbutts, clinching is legal, dropping your head and clinching is legal, if heads bang together in a clinch its legal. I dont think Holyfield has ever been docked points for the headbutt and hes one of the worst headbutters ever but gets away with it because he knows how, same with BHOPs headbutts

Obviously they come up as defence, didnt think it was part of his offence plan , and sometimes they were blatant fouls not that you noticed.

Anyway it WAS a hard fight to ref but Cortez was ****, we can round and round but he was sssshittttt.

Exactly. This is why I hate people saying that Cortez was inconsistent. If anything he should have warned Calzaghe for throwing illegal punches. I'm not having a pop at Calzaghe but it's unfair to say Cortez favoured the American fighter both times.

If Cortez was too hasty in breaking them up on occasions it's because Hatton has plenty previous for hugging.
This 'bias' angle and 'dirty Mayweather' the Hatton mob are going down is laughable considering what Hatton got away with for most of his career at the MEN.

Face it, he got beat at his own game, and knocked out by a guy whose power he was mocking before the fight.

Would Cortez have been **** though if he let Ricky hit and hold and wrestle all night? It seems like most people who are upset about the reffing are disgruntled Hatton fans.

If anything Cortez was very pro-Hatton against Castillo, he was aloud to hit and hold, wrestle, docked Castillo points for hitting below the belt when Castillo hit on the beltline (after Cortez said the beltline was fine)

I reckon Cortez rewatched the Castillo fight and thought he couldnt let Hatton pull that **** again as he made Cortez look bad

Were you upset about Cortez after the Castillo fight?

Im also a Mayweather fan (his skill not personality mind), and i also agree that Cortez based some of his refereeing on Hatton's previous.

This is the problem for me, every fight must be reffed with no bias, and i think Cortez brought some previous to it, which in turn distracted him to an extent from what Mayweather was doing, which was as bad if not worse than what Hatton was doing

do the same people who complain about Cortez complain about the reffing of the tszyu fight? or all the Hatton fights Mickey Vann reffed where clinches weren't broken up at all?
Fights should either be properly reffed or they should not, you can't jump over to the other side of the fence every time it suits your favourite (although we're all guilty of this sometimes, some are worse favoritists than others).

Mickey Vann is a legend, when refs are knee high to a grasshopper they all want to be like 'The Vann' when they grow up.....

His awesome name should be carved into Cortez's back

    This is gonna hurt..............
