Refs are only human and base their decisions based on perception. I dont think Cortez was too bad for Mayweather-Hatton, he had a stinker in Castillo-Hatton. Then again not as bad as Micky Vann in the Tyszu fight, then again Micky could hardly bite the hand that feeds him

We will get to see what the difference is in the rematch either way.

I think what is being said is about Cortez' inconsistencies.

He let both guys get away with things. Calzaghe with slaps and Hopkins with holding. That seems fair enough. I think if one guy was fighting within the rules he'd have a case to make but neither were.

J-Dog, you my friend are utterly correct.

The referee should ref WHAT HE SEES BEFORE HIM. This goes for any sport.

Cortez went in with an agenda and whatever his reasons, that is criminal.

Calling break with 2 feet of daylight between the fighters - and this did happen at one point - was appalling.

I think he was thoroughly played by the Mayweathers, illustrating yet another string to team Mayweather's bow.

Anyone who can't accept Cortez was rubbish is horribly biased.

Ah, so he was evening up the score for the Castillo fight

    All makes sense now

I'll clarify - I'm being sarcastic - and what you've said is, if true, a damning indictment of Cortez

I've seen refs in football giving bad decisions to cancel out a mistake they may have made earlier in the game. But for Cortez to go in with a mindset like that (if indeed he did) is ridiculous.

Yeah. Refs DO pull those stunts. Bad refs that is...

We'll never know, but to me, it seemed that way.

Like I say, the Mayweather camp have just about every angle covered. And they did a job on Cortez pre- and during the fight I reckon.

Gaz, I admire your resolve, re. these constant torrent of anti-Hatton threads, but surely you must cringe when you hear some of the **** hatton (jnr or snr) comes out with just to appease the unknowledgeable general public.

just the other morning i was driving to work listening to the detestable chris Moyles and he was chatting with hatton snr and Ray was going on about Ricky was defending "THE IBO World Title, I then promptly changed the station

Do you cringe when EVERY other boxer and promoter says the very same thing? Probably not.

It's these double standards that baffle me.

Why do people get so incensed about Hatton doing what everyone else does? Why do the same people criticise Billy Graham? Why do the same people insist Hatton ducked Witter? Wh do the SAME PEOPLE criticise Ray Hatton? Why do the same people excuse Cortez and lambast Vann / Parris?

It kinda suggests an agenda rather than a genuine distaste for any given statement / situation.
