Parker is a good lad. But ultimately he is still being paid big Saudi bucks to co-main the huge card tonight, so I don’t feel too bad for him. Also, he’s already the WBO interim champion so it’s only a matter of time before he either gets his shot, or gets elevated to the full WBO. Usyk-Dubois II, while it is a rematch, makes more sense than most rematches because: 1) Dubois actually rebuilt himself in the meantime, stopping Miller, Hrgovic, and Joshua. The latter, Usyk himself couldn’t stop in 2 attempts. 2) Given the controversy of Usyk-Dubois I, a rematch to settle matters makes sense. 3) Dubois brings a more entertaining style and a tougher style for Usyk to crack than Parker does. Usyk-Parker ends in a comfortable Usyk decision 9/10 times. There’s less certainty about how an aged Usyk would handle a resurgent Dubois’ power in a rematch.
Usyk knocked Dubois out with a jab. Usyk wanting to fight Dubois again is disappointing. It's not like Usyk has many years or fights left, wasting them on all these damned rematches sucks.
Walk forward with no defense isn't exactly a style Usyk struggles with. Parker at least has the hand speed and chin to make things interesting (even if he loses on points imo)
There is the theory out there that Dubois pissed hot, and whereas I flat out don't know, I heard that Warren contacted someone to see if the "antihistamines" that Dubois was taking might cause him to fail a test. It sounds a bit dodgy. But I don't know.
Issue is IBF number 1 is Bakole. If Parker loses, no chance he fights Usyk. If Parker wins, I’d think he’d be IBF #1 AND the IBF final eliminator hasn’t even been called yet. It’s a long road this way.
It's about legacy, though. And he will likely not get the shot at Usyk, regardless, now, because Usyk only wants Dubois and Pereira and then retire. Hopefully Oleksandr decides to drop the Pereira idea or stick around just a little longer.
That ibf belt means nothing. Usyk is the champion. Beating Bakole, is almost as good as beating Dubois anyways. Like I said, if he wins his legacy will be at it's highest.
It doesn't and it does. Future generations would read that he is a two-time titlist, and that is the long and short of it. If we are keeping score like that then guys like the 80s WBA champs never really were champs at all, and Wilder never really had a legit defense. But there is a certain respect in being able to say that you had a belt.
No one really classes the WBA guys as HW champions, same with Wilder. They're belt holders yeah but not champions. At HW everyone knows Usyk is the champ, politics making him vacate a belt doesn't change it. Parker is WBO mandatory so he'll still bet his shot at Usyk regardless.
