Whenever you read an interview with a boxer, promoter, trainer etc. talking about MMA, they always talk about it's strengths. They mention that the best fight the best, and fights always happen. Connected to that is the admission that boxing does not do that well. However, these people are the ones who are causing the problems in boxing! Roy Jones recently said that MMA is beating boxing because it puts the two best in the Octogon/ring/cage whatever. This is the man who spent his prime ducking the best fighters! He's a ****ing hypocrit. Frank Warren said the same thing as Jones did. He is the man solely responsible for Hatton/Witter (A while ago) and more recently, Enzo/Haye not happening. the fans want it, but that **** doesn't because it means less millions in his bank account. I can't remember all their names, sadly, but some US promoters are the same. That ****ing **** rips people off, causes fights not to happen, and then he prases the mentality of MMA promotions, and, again, the fact fights happen? Floyd Mayeather is another. He ducked Hatton before, ducked Mararito, avoided Tszyu - Three fights everyone would have liked, or will like, to see. Why the **** did he not fight them? money, and the fact he could have lost, or will lose, all three. Then he wants to talk about the integrity of MMA fighters and say boxing should be more like that? He is rejecting $10/15 MILLION DOLLARS to fight De La Hoya again, I'd say. Why? Because he canw in, again, and there is a huge amount of money in it. Do fans want to see it? Not really. The only people who can change boxing for the better...don't. They realise what they are doing is wrong, and why do they do it? Money! **** them. They all need to realise the reason they are getting big money for fighting every 27 months is because of us fans. It's absolutely bull****. One day, I hope all promoters join a single promotion. Someone needs to offer these guys massive money, so they can finally get rid of the **** that is ruining boxing.
I understand you're mad, but you can't start making **** up. Who did Roy duck? He fought Hopkins and Toney at 160 and fought pretty much every top fighter at 175 when he was in his prime there. Mayweather never ducked Hatton or Tszyu. Tyszyu lost to Hatton before Floyd could fight him and he tried to fight Hatton and Hatton admitted he wasn't ready for the fight. And where did you get that he turned 15 million dollars to fight DLH again? Floyd basically begged for a rematch and Oscar said he wan't interested. I bet you're an MMA fan who knows nothing about boxing, and is just here to start ****.
Come on, Michalczewski was by far the best opponent for Jones out there. Despite the division being pretty weak, he avoided the second best. And I said "prime" Jones. i don't consider the one who fought Toney or Hopkins to be in his prime. I don't think any of the three were close to their primes actually. Yes he did avoid Tszyu. I didn't say "ducked" because he didn't. He did however, have a choice. To go for gold with or without Tszyu. Not exactly "ducking", btu he did NOT opt for the best opposition. And Mayweather asked for $30 million dollars to fight Hatton in the UK post Hatton/Tszyu. That is as blatant as saying "**** off!". Judging from my posts and you not knowing who the **** Michalczewski is, I don't think you're in any position to say I don't know boxing. I am an MMA fan, but I prefer boxing.
I certainly don't remember Mayweather complimenting MMA. In fact I remember him saying the UFC "ain't ****" and that "anyone can put a tattoo on their head and get in a street fight".
If all #1 p4p boxers had the courage of Shane, boxing would be in a much better position. Youre right Jack, FMJ has done serious damage to the sport and he could care less.
He did an interview after that, complementing the sport. I'm sure you'll find it on some of the bigger sports sites. BBC Sport or ESPN or something. He was actually pretty respectful towards it.
Dude where do you get your information from?? For one he NEVER ducked Hatton.. Hatton even said himself he wasnt ready. Hatton was the one avoiding him and his father said so too! And he never rejected no offer from Delahoya for a rematch... are you nuts?
Toney was 44-0 and ranked by some no 2 p4p when he fought jones, how was he not in his prime? Furthermore if Roy wasn't in his prime as you claim and beat an undefeated no. 2 p4p guy then what does that say about Jones? Also I know exacly who Michalczewski is. I know he wanted more money than Jones and also wanted Jones to come to Germany to fight him. I also know Michalczewski lost to Gonzalez(a guy Roy handled easily). Even if you say he ducked Michalczewski, I said he fought pretty much every top LHW when he was in his prime(I did this on purpose because I knew someone would bring up Michalczewski) name another top LHW he didn't fight? Also, when the hell did Mayweather ask for $30 million to fight Hatton? I know Hatton asked for $13 million and said he wasn't ready for the fight.
He asked for $30 million to fight in the UK. The only place the fight could have made money. He purposely priced himself out. I didn't say he did. i can see where you're coming from, but Toney himself would disagree. Despite his record saying so, he seems to think he reached his peak later in his career. That he's great? I'm not sure what you're getting at here, because I haven't once said he wasn't a special fighter. I don't dispute that they were the top fights around, but they were shite. Who is the best fighter Jones fought at 175? And was he better than Michalczewsi? No. Jones should have fought him. I doubt that Michalczewski wanted mroe money, but feel free to back that up. Go and read the BBC's website. Go back to right after the Gatti fight, and there is several news stories on the $30 million figure. I checked myself last week.
THEY DONT PUT THE BEST TOGETHER. they are like the wwe in that they promote people that will sell to the crowd. they hype the photogenic and those that draw a crowd. at least in the ufc. either that or they hype old guys up to the max to draw a buck on what they used to be. in no way are they "the best of the best" who fight inside the mma ring. mma is ****ing gay. **** em'
And Darius was as much or more responsible for the fight never happening as Roy was. Sometimes fights just don't happen. Lennox 'ducked' Byrd. He wasn't afraid of him. He would have destroyed him, but he just didn't think it would be an interesting fight.
Jones-DM falls on both of their shoulders. UNLESS, and I am unaware of this but that doesn't mean it's not true, DM asked for equal or more money than Jones like BigReg says. In that time frame, there were 2 fighters in the world who could ask for equal or more money to fight Jones than Jones would make, and one of those is debatable. Lennox Lewis and Trinidad if he had beaten Hopkins. That's why I laugh when people say Jones ducked the Hopkins rematch in 01-02....Hopkins knew he couldn't get 50/50 with Jones. If DM asked for equal or more money than Jones AND asked him to come to Germany, which I know he did, then DM was pricing himself out.
