I though you're gonna say Tarver's wife. But this looks like an oldman Hopkins build up thread so it looks better on Calz's resume.
I am not trying to take anything away from Hopkins performance; Hopkins did good - no doubt about it, but in this case - Tarver would have lost to a lesser fighter than Hopkins. His focus was way off, and he was sloppy and as someone else said, lethargically.
But to say you dont rate the Tarver win highly is underrating it severely. Hopkins spent far over a decade at MW...at age 42, he jumps TWO weight classes...doesnt take a tune up fight...then utterly dominates and arguably shuts out the recognized champ at that weight. Im sorry, but I just dont get the logic of people not considering this a phenominal win??? :huh
Johnson certainly looked great. I think he put on the most impressive performance of his career. It's amazing how he was able to do that at 39 years old after looking so past-it in recent fights. He stepped it up tonight and he showed that he is still capable of being a factor in the division. He would beat Tarver's ass IMO. Tarver didn't look very good tonight. Woods pretty much gave the fight away. All he had to do was throw a lot of punches and fight like he wanted to win and he would have won. Instead we got a very boring fight where Tarver looked nearly shot, but still outboxed an unmotivated Woods who fought like a C level fighter tonight. Very disappointing that Taver is a "champion" again.. :-(
Sorry, but if Woods had let his hands go...I think he would have gotten KOd. It was quite obvious that everytime Antonio hit him, it hurt him. Not that thats a bad thing...people forget, Tarver is one hell of a puncher. Woods plenty of times attempted to let his hands go...but when he got hit, he changed his mind (or rather Antonio's punches changed it for him).
If you seriously think that Woods was in top-form and highly motivated, then I'm not going to argue with you. Good job on the Tarver pick, but I disagree with you about this Woods thing. And I think you're being nuts when you say you think Margarito beats Cotto after tonight.. but that's a whole different argument.
You are forgetting that Tarver is no spring chicken himself. How can it possibly be phenominal, when Milk Dud was somewhere else than in the ring? The conditions were there for a great win - unfortunately Tarver was out of focus and out of shape, which of course should be taken into the equation, and change the conditions of the win.
Tarver think's he's a pretty boy, if he wants the definition of pretty he only has to look at his wife.
The Tarver of last night was nto the same as the one two years ago, Tarver actually threw some punches, and good ones at that, not two at a time but 3's and 4's all accurate. im completely shocked. Hopkins win does look a lot better though. i was somewhat sceptical about the title attatched to next weeks fight but after last nights action I think it is the most legitmate of the lot. Hopkins - Calzaghe will crown the top dog at 175 for me.
