A Prime James Toney. AT 160-168

PBF's inside fighting (which was superb) and the way he used his shoulders and elbows to defend and deflect shots at short range was just like James. I'm not saying that he stole from Toney (it's a Michigan Thing) , but he has many of the same attributes.

    Anyway, I meant it as a compliment:good

haha i thought the same thing...only if toney was fighting ricky (p4p) toney would have sparked ricky before 6. simply cos toney would stand infront of ricky, make him miss and make him pay FAST!

the thing with mayweather is, he is a mix of toney and jones. toney is the betta boxer, he is ALWAYS defensivly responsible whilst being offensiv. unlike floyd who funnily is more defensively oriented than toney, he runs, but when he attacks, he gets caught clean sometimes with jus doesnt happen to toney. whereas when when toney throws a combo is ready to defend. it is hard to find a moment when toney gets caught clean with more than 1 punch, or even find a decent 1 punch land.

the way toney can mix/blend offense and defense is beautiful watch!

Apart from Roy Jones, perhaps. It was Toneys misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's a shame that certain people on here mock the guy cos of his heavyweight career....if he'd had the discipline to keep his weight down he'd have owned that 168 division once Jones moved up, I've certainly not seen a better fighter at that weight apart from Jones.

    Cue the Calzaghe nuthuggers.....

Agreed, his defense was a thing of beauty, and like everyone has mentioned - even the defensive greats don't blend offense in as well as he does.

Hmmm. I didn't get that impression. The lead rights, which is Floyds butter punch, isn't in Toney's game plan.

James had excellent right hands, and PBF's check-hook was definetly in the Toney arsenal.

Toney usually rolls his shoulder, then shoots the right hand, Floyd jumps in with the right lead. Totally different. Just my opinion.
