I've never once seen Thomas Damgaard's name mentioned. I'm not making any claims, but the similarities are interesting. Thomas was 37-0 the first time he left Denmark to fight Gatti a few years ago. He was 37-0 at the time, and had never been anything but a welterweight, I believe. Not a hard puncher, but a high volume one.
Gatti was given too much credit for beating at the time however. Starting claiming he was World Class again.
OH come on now, 95% of the European posters here was saying that he was going to whip Gatti good. It wasnt until after Gatti beat him like a rented mule that many of the European guys here started saying that he wasnt that good. However he wasnt never a highly hyped guy..Nothing like close to Kessler. Ill throw another name that was being highly hyped by alot of European guys here...Shea Neary, according to some of them he was going to walk though Mickey Ward then he was going to knock out Judah, and then unify. What happened??
I did see him hyped by some. Anyone, hype jobs come from all parts of the world, just drawing a comparison and trying to make conversation.
They are all Danish and probably promoted by Palle. Kessler is the exception, he is the real deal and a boxing god.
Never heard of the guy. But your claim would be impossible since NONE of us were around here in 2000....:nono Ceritfied hater.... You ran away from the last thread.:yep
and God chose to run out on Miranda to try for a paper belt at 175 at least thats what they claim, all done in classic Euro Hype job fashion. The credibility of fighting a hard punching Miranda on HBO apparantly not enough for God. God has no problem racking up defenses against pasty faced scrubs at 175 if and when by default he gets his paper title.
what a load of bollox. i was on boxing .com with you around 8 or 9 years ago when neary was facing ward as esb was not around then ,and boxing .com was 4,980 americans and about 20 europeans. and you say neary was hugely hyped, by who ? i can only guess that you are talking about another forum , but boxing.com was the biggest around by far at that time. i remember polls on boxing.com with you jaydawg/siddy/lok: ie the usual euro put down squad said hatton would struggle with most of the top 20 140 lb fighters of that time and would be exposed as soon as he moved into fighting live bodies. 95% of european posters on esb thought daamgard would beat gatti. since esb is about 30% european thats about 1,700 europeans thought daamgard would win and 35 thought gatti would win. yeah right. daamgard that well known fighter in the uk, shown zero times on uk tv and zero times on german tv.
mario veit , one of the only german boxers to have to fight on small hall bill shows , kept on undercards and when he did get to fight the calzaghe rematch , had the most empty seats of any german event of the last 10 years , such were the low expectations of him beating calzaghe. by contrast in the fight before v brewer he got a packed house. there was no hype around mario veit world title shots in germany.
Michael Grant, TOS Williamson, Dominic Guinn, many people were claiming that they were the next big thing at HW. None of them have done anything. Now that is a hype job! Ricky Hatton, losing to the best PFP fighter in boxing, after already winning several world titles is not being a hype job. Kessler losing to the best SMW maybe ever, after winning two World titles is not a hype job.
this is always /always aimed at european boxers. as soon as an american fighter loses no one says , oh yet another american hypejob ends up counting sheep. its always i new he was crap i new he was overhyped i new he was nothing why then did no one come out and say it beforehand. some americans are very quick to disown american fighters who lose, instead of seeing if they can rebound and improve, yet when such fighters do this, its straight back on the bandwagon as if the intermittent years did not exsist. when wlad/ vitali/hatton/etc etc lost , all the fans stayed loyal, where i was forever reading posts from the other side of the pond ,that says they are ****/overhyped etc etc . when lacy lost its as if he has fallen into a black hole and you will catch leprosy if you admit you ONCE supported him. jones is the only american i have seen fans retain loyaty on a consistent basis. to many people are now making boxing an american v the world event instead of boxer v boxer.
