You spend way too much time on the speed bag, before any fundamentals like footwork, defense/head movement, proper technique or half-decent cardio. You find yourself losing focus and/or interest in the middle of the class, or the coachs lessons and opt instead to work on your bicep curls. You walk around without a shirt on, when its not that hot, and youre not even sweating. On facebook, you want everyone to think youre a boxer, your profile pic is of you shirtless, and you post Mohammed Ali quotes but everyone at your gym knows youre a clown that doesnt train with any real focus or conviction. You make excuses not to spar when coach asks you and show no interest in doing the more focused and advanced training with the team. You dont even own any sparring equipment. You have no clue on how, or WHY you use the Philly shell but you try to use it anyway. Your version simply involves leaving your left hand low, but without any understanding of how to roll or counter. In most cases, this works for you, because you never spar anyway and bag work and shadow boxing doesnt involve taking any shots. You hit a punching bag or shadow box without any purpose, other than to APPEAR as if you know what youre doing or to look cool, or both. Most of the time you are merely posing in the mirror. You constantly check yourself out in the mirrors. The interval timer beeps mean NOTHING to you. You float from bag, to dumbbells to speed bag and only spend about 1.5 minutes on each one before you sit on the ring and sip your water. These are just a few observations over the years. Yes, I sound judgemental.....and I guess I can say that I don't judge those that make the effort to learn or are simply newbies....but I DO judge those who merely want to pretend to be boxers and copy the image, without any respect for the hard work, discipline or pain involved. And no I am not judging those who simply do not fight. I myself will eventually retire from the sport and will want to just stay in shape in the gym without competing. So that's NOT who i'm talking about. It's the punks that act like hot **** and simply copy the image of a legit fighter for their own benefit. Anyone wanna share their own?.....
there is a boxing "image?". OMG..I HIDE that I want to box..people call me crazy and think I'm a wanna be butch lesbian
I don't blame ya....lol...kidding Ya, guys think being a boxer is cool so a lot of them just pretend to be boxers - thanks to facebook. In my personal experience in the corporate world, i've found very little reason to hide my hobby. Most people just think it's pretty cool. And I can see why some women might not want to advertise it, but truth is, very few female boxers that i've met are actually "butchy". People are not as judgmental about it as you'd think.
i have a new job and dont wanna tell anybody that i box, too many misjudgments about it.. in gym i also hate that posers, but they quickly get exposed and quit
I know what you mean with this. Back at an old job of mine, I told some of my co-workers that I did kickboxing. I was immediately labelled as having anger issues and being a violent person... :huh
Frankly I hate the *****s who are boxers there who think because they are part of the stable there they own the ****ing gym. Constantly moaning and getting in the way when I'm looking in the mirror...
Yah, well those folks are just as bad. I agree. Luckily, the fighters in my gym don't have any egos and we get along great with the keep-fitters and casual members. But I can see this being a problem, especially in a sport where you have a lot of ****y aggressive personalities.
I've legitimately never encountered any of this in any of the gyms I've been at. Maybe the one or two guys a year who come in and say they want to go pro because they won 17 straight street fights, but they usually only show up once...
Who is it ? come on tell us who your jealous of because it doesn't matter if you train 24/7 you will never look as good as the poseur in your mind Don't ever go to a weight training gym you will end up in a nut house atsch
