Had so many 'elite fighters', but real elite fighters, not just what would be considered elite for that division. It rivals the legendary 70s division 1/1.

I stopped caring about HWs a while back, but will tune in for a match that is worth it. Povetkin vs. Haye/Solis/Klitschko down the line would be worth it and similiar fights.

Klit vs. Thompson, I may not even bother watching and I'm finished with Sam Peter.

What did you think of that Arreola-Witherspoon bout? Does it get much sloppier than that on an HBO level card?:yep

The problem with the 90's was a lot of those guys never fought each other like they should have. It was a good era.

He's very talented and come's into the ring in shape. If he has the heart, chin and brought along right i can see him get a world title.

There is a lot of truth to this. The talent seems ok, not the greatest and not the worse, but the matchmaking does suck.

Those guys are nice prospects but nothing about them screams spectacular... in all likelihood Wladdy the china chinned giant will still dominate this poor division for years to come.

I'll take the division today over where it was 5 years ago in a heartbeat. The talent's better, there's someone putting a stamp on the division, and we actually have prospects that can make some noise now. What needs to happen is matchmaking, pure and simple. The fights have to get made. I'll take that over what there was once Lennox and Vitali retired any day.

Also, people bearish on HW prospects ought to remember that much of the elite cruiserweight talent is likely heading to HW sooner or later as well.

Quiet !............we have to naturalise him(a la the Germans with any half decent fighter that crosses their path) before we let the World know he exists .

That's the thing, the up-and-coming crop is SO weak that promoters were trying to jam no-hopers like Tye Fields, Marrone, Chambers, Brock, Mollo, etc.. down our throats like they were future champs... but it's all they had.. they had to pimp somebody, and there just isn't anyone there.

Sure the Russians are dominating right now, but **** all if they don't bore the **** out of me.

Solis is the best hope, but he's already what, 28? Plus, is the passion going to be there once he's made a couple million?

All the matchmaking in the world don't mean **** if there's no decent fighters to match-up.

Quick, gimme your dream matchups right now.. and I'll tell you how much they suck.

    I'll wait.

    Nonsense.

Povetkin would hold his own with the 90s and 80s group, possibly losing to Lewis and maybe Holyfield but it'd be a war.

Both Solis and Povetkin are decorated amateurs. The HW division is in good shape. We've just been deprived of the best matchups as of late. And as Curmudgeon pointed out, the matchmaking at heavyweight is sorely lacking.

Nobody wants to wait it out and see how a young prospect will do. Everyone seems to cling to yesterday as though it will always be better than today or tomorrow. It's thinking like this that ruins the sport for you. Don't keep expecting old dogs like Holyfield or Tyson to give you the most for your buck.

You don't like the heavyweight division? Then don't watch it!!!

I'm looking forward to Klitschko/Thompson and plenty of others are too. I'm not a fan of Klitschko but I'm not gonna miss the opportunity to watch him. He's no Mike Tyson but he is a heavyweight attraction and he's got KO power which is basically what most fans want to see when u get right down to it.
