Submission grappling - perhaps more so than any other combat sport - is about technique rather than pure strength. I'd be willing to bet that anyone with grappling skills equal to a BJJ bluebelt would be able to at least outpoint Toney in a grappling match. Strength and speed don't amount to much in sub grappling when you have no clue what your doing. Also I have a highlight video of my high school wrestling days on youtube if anyone wants me to post it.
He would not beat me or anybody in shape in any speed test, if I did not beat him in the 100m I would retire from sports, hell he was always a static boxer. He has the strength of a man in good shape at 200lbs. Even if he is a very strong man at 200lbs, he is not a very strong 240lber. Still I would bet he would be pretty strong. Endurance? Eh? Toney throws about 2 shots a round these days, with regards to grappling cardio, does he hell have endurance.
post it. i think so little of toneys grappling skills that i think any committed bjj guy with the same training would beat him. 3 months or so. i don't think toneys strength or size would help him with anyone the same size. i wonder how he got legit grapplers to vouch for his grappling ability.
young toney was a very impressive athlete. i understood he was okay at football, he was fast, good reflexes, light, nimble, explosive, strong and powerful. this toney is a mess.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAOyclvf22w[/ame] Those highlights are mostly from my senior year, the 07/08 season, but theres some earlier stuff mixed in too. Also the Biggie song that was originally in the video got pulled from youtube and I had to replace it with this decent Drowning Pool song. Please let me know what you guys think.
Homo No seriously - Widdow vs Pimp No seriously. Some really good moves. Explosive when on the defensive and I like your sit them down reversal when they are going for a leg. Also a hint of BJJ - maybe I saw a leg triangle and a rear naked Good stuff. What was your record?
My record senior year was 40-15. Placed 2nd at sectionals and 6th at states at 160. Funny that you mention BJJ because I started training in it a year prior. It really helped me with my wrestling and scrambling and I was known to throw out the odd omoplata or Upa sweep on the mat. That sit down reversal to the single leg, the "knee pick cradle" as we called it, was my signature move and I used to let dude grab my legs just so I could hit it. Ryan Bader used the move a ton in college. Theres a really nice video on Purefight where he demonstrates it: http://www.purefight.org/coverage/234684/video/161091-bump-back.
no being gifted in the measurable athletic standards of speed, strength, flexibility, endurance and power makes you a world class athlete. toney isnt even close in any standard unless your comparing him with other boxers.
I'm 160 pound blue belt, training 2 years and am very confident of beating a 240 pound fat, old dude with 3 months experiance in a grappling contest.
