It's the only match left for GSP at 170, and it's against someone that actually has a chance standing and on the ground. I doubt that I'll be picking against GSP here, but I do realize that his less athletic opponent is still a threat. GSP should be better standing. Pierre is faster, stronger, and throws shorter strikes. Yet, Diaz' chin, will, and accuracy allow him to compete with better strikers. Daley is a better striker than Diaz, but he still got knocked out. Pierre is taking down top notch wrestlers so I doubt he will have any difficulty getting Diaz down if he wishes. The difference here is that Diaz probably has a better chance off his back than any of GSP's recent opponents. I will not at all be shocked if Pierre takes Diaz down, and rides him to a lop sided decision. I've already stated Pierre has the advantage standing, so it won't be shocking is he busts Diaz up there. Pierre is an exceptional fighter, and has outclassed everyone relevant. Diaz is a sub par athlete with a big time game, and Diaz is well aware of his role. Diaz' role is water. If this fight comes off we'll get to see if GSP towels him off, or if Diaz makes him drown. I look forward to this.
Do you people never learn from GSP's latest matches? You all apparently have a horrible case of memory loss. Every freakin fight for GSP I hear how he's going to get knocked out, or people are pumped about his opponent, and then GSP just smothers them for 5 rounds in the most boring fashion possible, and the same people who were exciting (also the same people that were dissapointed in his last fight) come on here, and say how boring he is, and how dissapointed they were! I want to see an exciting fight as much as anybody, and I don't care if either guy loses (don't really like either at this point), but I really doubt this will be exciting. If GSP is to stand for any amount of time it'd have the potential to be exciting, but fact is he's going to just try to lay on Diaz until every last fan at the event has left the arena.
Diaz will come to fight. He will let hands fly and and even on the ground he will aggressively look for sweeps and submissions. GSP will potshot and look for takedowns where he can enforce total control. GSP is very technical, I don't know if Diaz is on that level. He needs to be to win. Diaz is tough so I fear another 5 round decision. GSP will be hooking up with Freddie to keep working on those hands.
great fight cant wait, diaz is prob gsp's biggest threat at ww so im happy, although we should all fear a gsp domination that will bore us
The gulf in class may be well apparent - But I would suggest that we finally have an opponent for GSP that might press a fight out of the guy. The lead up should be as entertaining as the fight!!!
Diaz is the clear #2 guy at WW for me right now, good on UFC for making this happen. Its time to put down that pipe Nick!
Everyone's aware of GSP's boring **** now. As soon as he starts trying it, the crowd will really be on his - and the refs - back to stand it back up
