I agree, and I'm a Yank by the way. Lacy was a world beater who was expected to roll over Calzaghe, and I read so many predictions of how he was going to crush Calzaghe that when the fight took it's course, the "experts" all had to eat crow for dinner, and felt foolish for it. 50/50 hindsight is what you call it. To make themselves look better, they then trash Lacy. The guy Kesler, was on his way to dominating his divisio, and he was so capable of doing so. A clever, effective boxer with power, underrated power, he is also tall and a big guy for his weight. Calzaghe reached into the bag and outfought the guy basically. Sure Calzaghe isnt a big puncher, but he is very effective in maximizing his hand speed and volume punching. He's doing SOMETHING right to be undefeated and for as long as his career has been. The fight with Hopkins was difficult, with the 1st round kd and all, but once again, Joe did what he had to do, and won. Yes he WON the fight, which, if not for him, wouldn't have even been a fight. A rematch is unlikely, but I bet anyone that Calzaghe would not be caught with kd punch again, and with even more confidence than before, would win more emphatically than the first time. Then again, the fight would not be very popular and would prove little, as Hopkins age would be cited as the reason for the defeat.
ROFL that was hilarious, I'm American and that broad was dumb as all hell. Btw can yall English send Keira Knightly over to my house i'll take that English chick anytime
I'm really sick of this nationalistic/anti-nationalistic bull****. Americans are not the only to blame for criminally underrating and criminally overrating some fighters... In fact, **** that, **** the goddamn nationalistic titles. SELECT POSTERS are to blame for such, not a whole group of them unless you are talking about a rabid fanbase such as the Pacmaniacs or the Joy Boys, whom are combined by their fan-love for those select fighters, not what is on their passport. ENOUGH.atsch
Forgot to add - The BBC scored the fight for Hopkins, now just about everybody across the globe who knows how to score a fight scored the fight by a margin that was a clear win for Calzaghe.... atsch And to the best of my knowledge, the BBC is the major broadcaster for what little Island over there in Europe?
The BBC are a bunch of socialistic, self-hating commies who would pick against their own man just to be politically correct. Only ******s have that fight close. Calzaghe took over after the 4th round and just dominated the old racist fart.
I only caught the fight today...what controversy? Sorry it was very clear and Hopkins did **** all after round 7 until coming to life briefly after his 5 minute rest for a "low blow". Oh and after he went down a second time, the ref should have started a count. It was totally faked but he chose to go to ground and even though Cortez did not rule it a low blow he still let Hopkins get another 20-30 seconds rest. He should just have started counting....if you go to ground and the ref does not see it as a low blow, its a count and you have just lost the round 10-8 for being a cheat.
Excellent post. Oh and Amsterdam is spot on. It is not just Americans, it is stupid people who think the fighters nationality is what is important above anything else. There is nothing wrong with being patriotic and supporting your fighters but when you allow it to blind you and make you discredit other fighters it is pathetic. Plenty of Brits are guilty of this idiocy too and you only have to look at the Pavlik fanatics who are by and large Americans with Eastern European roots to see bias at its worst.
It is true though. I have know Jetski as a poster for years now and the guy pretty much only supports eastern european linked fighters. When Cotto was coming through or Guzman was making his name or now we have Haye etc...none of those fighters interested him, because they are not white Eastern European in origin.
