Most of the ringside reporters gave the fight to Ali. Ali himself felt that Norton beat him, though. A razor close fight for me as well.
I don't know about the details of the Vietnam war but if Muhammad Ali didn't believe in the war then why on Earth would he compromise his beliefs and values and join the war effort? I have massive respect for him for doing what was in his heart. I don't get the people who called him a draft dodger or coward for doing so ... If he did join the war he would likely just be doing exhibition matches or something or be made into an officer like Joe Louis. Instead he did whst he believed was right and paid the price ... He lost his boxing license and was exiled from the sport that he relied on to feed him and his family for nearly 4 years. That takes more courage than joining the war where he would never even see combat and would just be there for the sake of being there.
World War II was a necessity, our great nation was attacked, just like 9-11. Vietnam was escalated by a warmongering president in 1964. You cannot force another nation to embrace your economic feelings. I do not believe in communism, I served honorably in the Air National Guard for 6 years, I was a Sgt at the time of my discharge, but I did not support our involvement in Vietnam either. It was all political. If our country was attacked, I would be the first to want to defend our homeland. I respect Muhammad Ali for refusing to go, the situation with Ali was a pure witch hunt in my estimation. He won in the end, except for losing his prime boxing years, 43 months. But the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the draft board was wrong, all charges dropped. I would not pay any mind to trolls, who wish that they could be as great as Muhammad Ali, who by the way showed great moxie to stand up for what he believed.
Yeah. You could tell by Muhammad's face while they were waiting for the post fight announcement that he thought he lost that one. Their second fight was my favourite out of their trilogy.
