I know it's only July, but for the last 18 months Boxing Forums have been filled with threads saying "WATCH-OUT FOR THIS YOUNG FIGHTER IN 2012"....Well, Where are they?

    Matt Korobov
    Demetrius Andrade
    Shawn Porter
    Pier Olivier-Cote
    Jose Benavidez

When will these and other young fighters step-up on the "Big-stage" (HBO /Showtime or part of a Televised PPV undercard) versus top competition and get their names known by the "Casual Fan" and not just by the Hardcore Boxing Junkie. It appears that Russell Jr, Durlome and Fortuna have taken that next step. IMO. If I have missed some....please list them.

Forget Korobov, he strikes me as way too average in so many categories for him to ever be an elite world-class fighter imho. I don't think Porter will ever be an elite boxer either. Heard he's been sparked more than a few times by Pacman in sparring. Yea, Pac is an ATG but he is much smaller than Porter and if a much smaller dude is straight up KO'ing you with headgear and bigger gloves on then you probably got some issues with your chin.

Cote is a stud, I think he is headed for big things. I would love to see Danny Jacobs recover from Cancer and return to the ring. That kid is loaded with potential and seems like a great kid, what a shame for this to happen to him. He may have lost to Pirog but he was too green in that fight, if he reaches anything near his potential then he will be a special fighter.

I agree, Cote appears to be a legit prospect. However, I would like to see him versus a legit contender or someone that can make him "get-some-rounds". As far as Porter, I have never felt comfortable debating a prospects talent based off of "Rumors" of a sparring session. A few years ago ESB lit-up with the rumor that Lamont Peterson destroyed FMJ in a Sparring session. Since then...Peterson got dominated by Bradley, and two gifts versus Khan and Ortiz. So a rumor about Porter being sparked by Pacquiao means nothing to me. I think the kid is extremely talented. And he should put his name on the list of "Real-Deal" WW's with a great performance against Gomez on the TELEVISED HBO CARD GUERERRO VS AYDIN.

    Can't Wait.

Benavidez is about 3 years from being a star
Yohei Tobe is one to watch out for for next year though

I live in Montreal, so I should be a Cote fan... but I think he's a KO waiting to happen. He gets wild when he throws and opens up too much with his chin flying in the air.

Apou probably won't end up being anything special. If recent history has told us anything, it's that he'll fail big time when he steps up. Bute failed at the big stage, and Lemieux failed on his way to the big stage. Apou is exciting as hell, but usually exciting fighters don't make it to the world level or elite level. Plus, much like his counterparts, they are backhand heavy and have no lead hook. Also, Apou seems pretty vulnerable, not as chinny as Bute or Lemieux, but still I wouldn't trust him taking a clean punch to well.
