Lewis wasn't some slick boxer by any means,he was a good boxer but a guy who knew how to use his phsicality well. He was a good right hand puncher with a less than stellar chin.
Foreman was a tad smaller,a puncher with all shots and an iron chin

I say Prime Foreman by TKO inside 4.

Yeah people keep talking of stamina issues with young Foreman. He had nearly 50 fights in his prime and got tired in 3 of them. Not that big of a deal considering he won 9 of 10 rounds against Peralta. Plus,he had a rematch with Peralta and stopped him much sooner. Learned from the mistakes.

McCall was a good fighter but his size has nothing to do with him beating Foreman. Size is a non issue.

David Tua was 201 pounds in his pro debut and Killer power in both hands. Who wants to mess with him?
    Size is overrated.

Oh sure. a sparring partner and a borderline contender wrecked Lewis.

Too skilled? Right. rangefinder jab and a big right? That's skills? What about the clinching? That's a skill too. lol

    Foreman by KO in 2.

Lummox Lewis wouldnt dare fight a prime Foreman seeing as Lewis never fought a man within ten years of his prime.

The Lummox couldn't beat a fat old Ray Mercer. Barely beat Tucker, wrecked by 2 lesser fighters!

    The Lummox is overrated.

i agree.. mccall would have been destroyed on his feet like chuvalo.. a young aggressive foreman would destroy the tough guy against the ropes. plus foreman was stronger than mccall and harder puncher. he would force oliver to trade blows.just an ignorant guy or a kid would pick mccall to beat foreman

Foreman was stopped once ever. Being dropped dont mean anything if ya come back to win big! Foreman was stopped once by Ali and he was down for 8 seconds after extreme exhastion. Foreman slipped against Young. It wasn't because Young hurt Foreman.

Lyle hurt Foreman yes and Lyle was 3 times the fighter that McCall and Rahman were.

Lewis didnt have a better jab. He had a rangfinder and a clinch.

Since when did Lewis become this masterful boxer? Have you seen him fight?

Footwork of a fat teenager, chin of glass, heart of a lemon etc

Foreman his best weight was probably 230 or around.
He was dehydrated in his "prime".

Mccall would still take his shots

And 225 pounds in his prime.

Tua is and always will be a big hw, very stocky guy

  9. I don't know about that. I will favor Prime Rahman over Lyle and Mccall is a 40-60 Slight Underdog.

John is the type poster that makes this board so bad. Just over the top unknowledgable.

We are talking prime Foreman which would be Ali or before. The Foreman post Ali was not the same fighter but everyone knows this but you.

Prime Foreman was the hardest puncher I've ever watched live. I've watch every hwt champion since Ali train and fight from ringside so this says plenty. McCall again is a nothing....ordinary skills, forgettable fighter who would be a human punching bag for prime Foreman. So says I and so says most anyone who knows this sport.

Don't know about that. I watched the Vitali fight and saw with my own eyes Lewis stopping Vitali in his tracks with his jab. One of the heaviest jabs I ever saw. Might want to watch the fight.

So how do you test this theory., Lyle had Foreman down 3 times in one fight. So even ignoring his other knockdowns, Foremans' been down more than Lewis. Doesn't matter that he got up, because then you're punishing Lewis for having a good enough chin not to go down in the first place.

This is a very poor analysis from a guy who gets paid to analysis various issues. Let's see where to start:

    1. How can you say with any degree of certainly that Foreman had better whiskers than Lewis did? Against Lyle he was down 3 times. That more times than Lewis was down in his entire career, in just one fight.

    2. As far as Lewis pawing with his jab, I invite you to watch the Vitali -Lewis fight and show me where Lewis was "pawing" he literally stopped Vitali in his tracks.

I don't mind you or anyone else picking Foreman, I'm just asking for a better analysis of why, cause this is pretty pathetic.

A sensible, logical argument could be made for either, but few have gone that route in this thread.

And foreman having a better jab than Lewis is about the most ridiculous notion this thread has produced, and there is a lot of ridiculousness going around...

The vitali fight isn't the only example. It is not a pawing jab. It is a ****ing sledgehammer that does exactly what a jab is supposed to do.

If falling forward, over committing, and not following up with any punches after it means having a good jab, then yes, Foreman has the better jab by far.
