The thing that comes across about Griffo is that he was virtualy imposible to hit cleanly even when he neglected his training. Reading between the lines I think that he must have been born with Roy Jones like reflexes to do what he did. One of the most naturaly gifted fighters of all time. He once fought Pedlar Palmer (himself a defensive wizzard of the era) in a bout where neither fighter landed a significant punch. He also came close to being the first boxing mega star in the lower weight classes being ofered unprescedented purses for a non heavyweight.

Great research! Now that I read your stuff, I remember that Fleischer wrote a book about him. I don't know if it is available but I think it is called Will of the Whisp.
I've added some clippings for Joe Gans' early career (1894-1895 for now, when I have time I may continue). Added a few bouts and corrected some. Plus added or corrected preliminaries, if anybody interested in them.
Tell what? Added three more bouts (1894-06-26&27 and 1894-12-28), corrected the date for Sol English bout (March 6, not 7), rounds and report for 1894-12-27, and reports for 1895-02-06 and 1895-03-06. The only fight that doesn't have a report now is the 1895-03-16 one, which I think is simply mistaken with one of their other meetings, no mention of it in the Baltimore or Washington press. Plus, of course, the undated bouts from 1891-94, which I wasn't able to find either in Baltimore Sun.
