Young Gunz: Samuel Vargas vs. Manolis Plaitis RBR

Melis has been in with Dmitry Pirog, lasting five and a half rounds. He has the much, much better overall opposition faced here.

Mike "The Brazilian Rocky" Oliveira is the big bully who was calling out the much smaller, fat, old, long retired Acelino Freitas last year. :-( Otherwise he's never been in with anything close to a big name. (unless you count Xavier Tolliver, who got shut out and stopped by a shot Mundine)

 

Round 1

Oliveira puts in some hooks to the body. Melis lands a solid right hand coming forward. Now some wide hooks. Oliveira takes his turn, throwing rapid lefts and rights down the middle. They go back and forth, each aggressive for a few moments before backing off. Nice overhand right by Oliveira. Melis puts his hands up and hops back, cautious. More elusive movement by Melis, backing all the way across the ring to the ropes as Oliveira reaches out to dig to the body. Lunging left hook up top by Oliveira.

Round 2

Oliveira is banging the body, fists turned upward. Melis is using a lot of elbow on the inside to drive Oliveira back, and not getting warned. Combos to the body by Oliveira. High jab by Melis stepping back. Cross-armed defense by Melis. Oliveira drums away at Melis' arms, trying to get beneath them and crack at the ribs. High jab by Oliveira as they separate and begin to circle each other. Melis leans over to his left and looses a long hook to the body. Straight combo to the guard by Oliveira, and then some uppers flung up below it. Oliveira leans in against Melis and slaps over with a right hand. Melis shoves him back into a corner and looks to jab at him from range.

Round 3

Oliveira is jabbing from range and throwing in some long rights. Melis gets his neck snapped by one of those rights. Melis looks to crowd in on Oliveira with his guard up, and slap at him around the sides. Straight right by Melis falling in, and then he turns his left elbow up into Oliveira's face to force him backward. Oliveira fires some left and right uppercuts while leaned up against Melis. They push into each other, neither gaining the upper hand. Melis jabs at mid range. Oliveira lands a right. Melis lansd one back on him. High jab by Oliveira. Body shots by both, leaning together. Cuffing shots to the sides of the head by both. Melis turned southpaw and lands some right jabs.

Yeah, but if he goads Popo into the ring and hurts him it would put him on my "most hated boxers" list in a hurry.

 

I can definitely see that. :thumbsup Surprisingly effective as a southpaw on the inside.

 

Round 4

Melis begins the round as a lefty, staying in Oliveira's chest. Now he backs out and switches his footing, jabbing with his left. Oliveira pumps several jabs into Melis' guard. Overhand rights by Oliveira, missing as Melis turtles his head in and bows it low. Oliveira catches a Melis right hand on his glove and throws a high combo. Lunging lead right by Melis, grazing as Oliveira ducks. Uppercut & left hook combo by Oliveira on the inside. Melis slips some shots and falls in with another right hand. Clinch. Oliveira keeps pumping jabs. Melis ducks in under them and grazes with another right. One more right by Melis.
