Vs norton, young, ocassio, berbick, weaver, dokes, tate, holmes, coetze, shavers, spoon, ****ey etc how do you see his career in this stage of time when foreman was out of game?
I think he does really well. I think Holmes beats him, but Joe probably overruns the rest of them. Witherspoon would be tough, but he didn't have the work rate to handle Joe.
When OP says Young do you mean vintage, prime Frazier I believe that version of Frazier gets inside Holmes' reach and hammers home some serious punishment. By the later rounds Holmes is battered and unable to effectively move and box. Frazier by late rounds stoppage.
I don't see Holmes winning this. Frazier beat Ali who, at that time, was better at pretty much everything than Holmes.
Frazier beats Holmes no doubt, he is better equipped to be boxers and movers more so than any other heavyweight.
Holmes out points him in a tough fight.Spoon at his best could beat him his boxing and power would trouble joe but its tricky saying which version of tim shows up .Dokes would be a good fight but I think joe stops him .shavers would a short war with ern spark out at the finish.joe beats the rest I think.
I assume these are all 15 round fights. The only guy that really bounced Young Frazier off the floor successfully was Foreman (assuming the Ali fight didn't take anything out of Frazier). So you have the Frazier steam roller coming after all these guys over 15 rounds.
I think Frazier beats them all but he would pay a toll each fight and probably still not have that much longevity. I think Joe grinds Larry Holmes down and maybe stops him late or wins a decision. I don`t see Dokes being much of a problem for Joe Frazier. Witherspoons had the talent but he often wasn`t in top condition to deal with a pressure fighter like Frazier. Ya gotta give Shavers a puncher`s chance but most likely he gets KO`d.
If Frazier was swapped out for Holmes he would go extremely well and dominate. With both in the pool they would have a heckuva tussle.
Frazier would most certainly knock out an older version of Kenny Norton from the late 70s early 80s. I think he had too good of a punch for Norton to handle.
A prime joe Frazier placed in the proposed time frame does very well. But I don't think he'd necessarily duplicate the championship run of Holmes. For all his greatness, smoke wasn't made for a long reign at the top. And facing some of those big 1980s punchers in progression would wear on him.. I'll likely get laughed at for this but men like Gerry C00ney and Tim Witherspoon might even have a fair chance at beating him given their size, power and styles.
I think he goes right through them. Which guy takes those lefthooks to the body Joe dug in there? And a defense like Norton & Witherspoon is made to order for a left hooker. So I sure don't see those guys lasting long or being effective. His conditioning alone is a huge problem for the heavies in that timeframe. And Durham & Futch in the corner would certainly magnify the flaws of the guys Joe was matched up with. Joe's big downfall would be matchmaking sooner or later. He was not afraid to take on the best or have rematches. One of those times he'd stumble. But I also think he'd leave a big s****heap on the way there with lots of guys suffering from Foster type ko's.
Their size? Frazier did beat bigger guys than spoon(who was 6'3 guy 215 pounder).****ey could hurt him but that is all
