Dura swept the early rounds, slowed the pace after 7 rounds which allowed Ray to make those rounds closer which is why many of the middle rounds were even (DUH!) When Duran upped the pace, Ray fell behind again it's that simple
In order to claim the fight "slowed" in the middle rounds, you have to admit it was fast in the early and late rounds. You can't have it both ways. STEVE FARHOOD said the fight was a fast paced War throughout. YOU said Steve Farhood was "very hard to discredit" ( http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6968578&postcount=45 ) It's that simple. :yep:deal
Moderate paced not fast paced. Not hagler-hearns, Pryor Arguello, or Manicini Kim paced. I'll never confuse Leonard for Ketchel or Armstrong like endurance and the fact of the matter is, when Duran eased off the gas pedal it allowed Ray to at least win a few close rounds or at the worst, even rounds. Good workout for Roberto,, had the fight 9 rounds for cholo, 4 to Leonard, two even
Sugar Ray Leonard defeated ATG's Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, and Marvin Hagler. How can anyone not rate that guy highly? Beating Quality like that?
In this case I'd say he exaggerated. At times boxing writers are prone to doing just that. You must understand, Farhood was working hard at trying to build up Ray's career.
Hagler was a shell so he must be discounted. It's not as tho he beat 1982 hagler at his peak. Had he beat Norris and/or Micheal Nunn I'd be impressed. That would give us all much more reason to celebrate than beating a worn out Hagler with no teeth that never laced up the gloves. But Ray knew who to fight and when and who to never go near. Benitez? He was harmless. Hearns was pretty good tho, just 3 years from his peak
Thanks GA I've never seen this video. This just confirms my belief that Cuevas was truly one of the ring immortals.
So Farhood's opinions of Leonard should be taken with a grain of salt then? That's not what you said here: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6968578&postcount=45 Oops... :yep
In certain cases such as this one but concerning his assessment of leonard in uno mas, no because the evidence was strongly against any semblance to a decline. he won every round, did he not? I will say that leonard from the first Duran fight put up a good struggle, much better than Palomino.
