Benitez at 154 would have beaten Tony. Tony was in a tough division. Wilfred fought Duran and Hearns at this weight and beat Duran easily and lost a 15 round decision to Hearns. He was exceptional at 154. He declined moving up to 160. And Mugabi? I like Tony, but Mugabi was scary at the weight. Mugabi of 1984 and 1985 against Tony? Wow. I see Mugabi winning in one or two. John Mugabi had 2 good years in him and that is it. Hagler took Mugabi's heart in that one fight. John put his all out but Marvin stopped him in a grueling fight where Marvin was out of shape. Tony vs. Moore.. That is more winnable for Tony. Guys like Medal would have been good fights for Tony also, or even Santos.
*Ayala was a young fighter in the toughest div ... and he would've made it tougher. Maldondao caught Ayala, but Ayala was far from being Ko'ed... and that was in his 10th fight or so... *Ayala was a guy who got stronger and stronger as the fight went on... never tired... I'll tell u this from a guy who was there... Duran was going to get blasted had Ayala not gone to prison... i was a young fighter in the gym back then, and that's the fight they wanted... At 150 lbs... Duran would've been killed ... there would never been a lighter weight fight, Ayala wouldn't fight at a lighter weight. *Never would Benite have beaten Ayala..again, it would've been at middle. *Hagler and Hearns and Leonard... was something different... but remember..we never saw Ayala at his peak. He was still getting better...
:deal Now here's a man who knows what he's talking about. No way would Duran or Benitez have survived Tony's onslaught at 154. They're just too small and pudgy at this weight. I don't think Leonard would have much of a chance either. Hearns had a good chance given his arsenal and range, but also had weaknesses made for Tony's talents. Hagler-Ayala would be the ultimate.
