In recent years Tyson has stated he wouldn't stand a chance against Ali but I don't believe for one second he really thinks that. Not too long ago I either watched a video or read an article where a young Tyson secretly said he would kick Ali's ass. For the life of me I can't find it but I remember it being quite old. Does anyone on here know what I'm talking about?
Tyson would have his ass handed very well!Tillis and Douglas are not fast and strong as Ali and Tyson is not Frazier!Tyson lacked stamina after round 6 and his bobbing and weaving stop!Just like Ali said about Tyson:jab and move to round 10 and it would be all over!
It's not a debate about whether he could it's about finding the video or article that claims he said he would beat Ali.
For as long as I can remember, Tyson has always said he believes he'd have lost to Ali. If he did say that years ago then I bet he looks back and thinks "what the fook was i saying"?!
Yes he's says that on camera but God knows what he says behind closed doors. It's doing my head in because I read or saw it not too long ago. By the way I think a peak Tyson would have a very good chance of beating Ali, as good as anyone tbh. Surely someone on here will be able to remember. Can you ask Sandra for me, he's sure to know.
I SAID JUST LAST YEAR THAT I WOULD KNOCK TYSONS DICK IN THE DIRT IF HE FOUGHT ME IN MY BARN IN NO HOLDS BARRED TO THE FINISH FIGHT. NO ROUNDS. I PUNCH HARDER AND SNAPPIER THAN MIKE. . I ALSO SAID I WAS FASTER THAN ALI. AND WHAT ABOUT THAT GUY THAT THRASHED TREADMILLS.
Morlocks on the booze again.... Never heard of MT sayn so. Was this maybe an interview of Steve Lott?
Would be interesting the source of this because actually i think equal,Tyson is being nice and humble but i am sure that during his prime he thought that he would have beaten Ali sure. And remember the famous video when he was past his prime "i am jack Dempsey and Sonny Liston i am the best ever". This content is protected I think that a 1966 Ali would win.
Tyson's only chance would be if he could get him out early which no one ever did to Ali. Tyson was a different guy the longer a fight went on. I would have my money on Ali.
1988 Tyson has good chance to beat 1966 Ali. It’s a great mythical matchup. Tyson has defense, great chin, two handed power, speed of both hand and foot and was aggressive. His engine wasn’t as good as Frazier’s but he was bigger and stronger. Ali would have his hands full. I think Tyson would bank a lot of early rounds but then has the fight progressed Ali would turn the tide and begin to tag Tyson as he slowed down. I think it goes distance and winner is whoever wins the swing rounds with Tyson winning more early rounds and Ali taking more late rounds.
I know the original poster wanted a reference for his quote but I just wanted to give my opinion on the prime Tyson (1988) vs Ali (1967) debate: Ali at his peak evidenced a particular style of boxing that would have defeated all three types of boxing styles typically encountered: 1. The classic boxer who adhered to the orthodox style of fighting - Ali was able to defeat him as he could jab, throw combinations, feint and move laterally better than anybody else; as evidenced by his victories over Floyd Patterson, Zora Folley and Karl Mildenberger. 2. The powerful puncher (swarmer and plodder) - Ali was able to defeat this category as he had the unique ability to float out of range and then deftly move in to deliver a stinging flurry of shots. The powerful bruiser would ultimately become frustrated by his inability to land a clean blow and would either get knocked out or retire; as evidenced by Charles Sonny Liston and Big Cat Cleveland Williams. 3. The awkard unorthodox fighter - this is the type of boxer who displays alot of resilience and tenacity. Someone who is willing to take several shots just to land one and usually has a good chin. George Chuvalo exemplified this category of fighter. However, Ali would always beat this type too as he had tremendous stamina to wear his opponent down, was able to "rough-it-up" when required, could take a terrific shot and had an incredible heart. Therefore, based upon what I have mentioned, I do believe that Ali would have beaten Tyson as I do not think Iron Mike could have brought anything to the ring that Ali would not have had an answer for. As for Ali, Tyson would not have been able to cope with the relentless movement, stinging jab and taunting that would have occurred from round 1 to round 15!
I think he did believe and quite likely still believes that he'd beat Ali prime for prime. You don't get to where he was without a huge belief in yourself (even though it will be sprinkled with doubts at times) and it's not like it's that far fetched either.
