Is it really fair or time to get your hopes up when a young lion beats a old war horse. I can't help but to think of past fights and the ones that are to come. What comes to mind is Oscar/Chavez, Trinidad/Whitaker. Up and comming bouts like Cotto vs. Mosley or Mayweather, because after the Margo/Williams fight it'll be at least another year 1/2 before Cotto fights a knocking on forty years old Mosley. Even Floyds skills will have deminished some by then. Maybe to just me, but a younger Shane has no problem at all with Cotto, a younger Whitaker vs.Trinidad (thats a wipe out), not to sure about a younger Oscar vs. Chavez. Opinions please.
That's boxing. You rarely get the prime for prime fights between the best fighters anymore. Seems have a 32-0 record is better for the marketing guys than having the best fights.
what about the proposed holyfield vs ibragimov,,,,, i remember everyone saying they want holy to retire,,, now suddenly theres all this new excitement about him ,, i think he should retire,, hes gonna get badly hurt,,, maybe not by ibragimov but imagine he wins and goes on to fight klitschko or someone,,, i really think hes too old and hes not in good health
Agreed, but I think he has like 8 kids to feed. If the athletic commision says he can fight, then feed those kids Evander.
Its an age old business arrangement in boxing. The younger fighter needs publicity and a name on their resume, the older fighter needs one last big check, and many times the fans need to see their favorite older fighter get beat to let go and want them to retire.
This is a great, intelligent thread with insightful comments from people that genuinely care for the sport.Good job to all of you.
